From Cleric To Relic

Recommended Posts

Father Virgilio Elizondo, a well-known theologian, professor at the University of Notre Dame and former rector of San Fernando Cathedral, died Monday, according to several sources.

The Bexar County (San Antonio) Medical Examiner’s Office verified his death late Monday night. Archdiocese of San Antonio officials did not return calls, nor did several other Catholic officials who knew Elizondo well.

Widely considered the founder of U.S. Latino theology, Elizondo had been living under a cloud of suspicion after a lawsuit filed in Bexar County last May accused him of sexually abusing an unidentified boy more than 30 years ago.

Now ruled a suicide -- gunshot wound to the head.

Hmm, Ronald Mulkearns, former bishop of Ballarat and possibly a protector of the pedophilia system within the Australian church, may not be as sure a hit as I and maybe DDT believed:

His lawyer says he has colon cancer and maybe only months left to live. It sounded worse in Janaury when he supposedly was in palliative care.

And the mastermind of it all, Cardinal Pell, definitely isn't as ill as he claims to be...

Demjanjuk gambit, anyone?

As stated earlier, I now believe nearly all those who are incarcerated and have 'terminal illnesses' are full of hyperbole, poi, and bullshit. I've left them off my teams and believe you've all been suckered in by people like Howard Marks and Lynne Stewart (and a couple others no need to mention). So if we have another candidate here, I've made my pre-determination on the merit of his claim.

If Howard Marks dies this year of the affliction complained of, I'll buy each of you a Curly-Wulry candy bar.

Dead, as reported for some reason here: http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8613&p=260670

Well, the obit did appear rather easily...

I was secretly dreaming of getting a unique hit with him. But then I kind of expected Davey Jones' locker to pick him. But it was DDT instead.

The "last Irish bishop to attend the Vatican II Council", Miles McKeon is dead at 97:

Not THAT obitable, but the last surviving participants should be obit-worthy, like

Luigi Bettazzi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luigi_Bettazzi

Raymond Hunthausen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Hunthausen (interesting story, a feud with Benedict XVI)

or Remi De Roo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remi_De_Roo

Edit: Maybe I should have looked for The 100 Club Thread, thinking on it...

Scottish Bishop William Nolan (Galloway) had a heart attack. He is 62, and more of a Deathrace pick.

Charles Z. Smith, former president of American Baptist Churches USA, who rose from simple beginnings in the deep south to become a pioneering African American jurist in his home state of Washington, died Sunday in Seattle. He was 89. A lifelong Baptist, he served as president of the denomination during 1976-77.

Obitable scottish bishop William Nolan has a heart attack just one year after he was installed to replace John Cunningham who was in ill health, and he was not the only obitable scottish bishop in that state:

There's a far better option in that field for 2017, Central belt (retired), but that's as far as I'll say as he's a family friend.

Gabriele Amorth, one of the most famous exorcists around the world, has died aged 91 after weeks of respiratory troubles.

http://www.tgcom24.mediaset.it/cronaca/lazio/roma-morto-a-91-anni-l-esorcista-padre-gabriele-amorth_3031534-201602a.shtml

And that leads to a great daily double (Ciampi and Amorth) for the Italian deathlist.
