Had been shortlisted for my "bung 'em on the DDP" side project team, and had I known one of the chosen 20 had actually died a decade ago (still cursing that fanzine) there's been a number of far better choices that made the final 30 who would have been better DDP picks. Like this one.

Evander Holyfield came back - aged 58 - and lasted 58 secs, don't bother with the first 3 mins and 40 secs of the video, after which it's fairly one-sided once it kicks off:

Just watched a BBC interview with boxing promoter Bob Arum (wiki) about the Tyson Fury fight.

Arum is 90 in two months. He looks and sounds incredible for his age.

Here he is yesterday, looking livid and snapping at a reporter, telling him "shut the fuck up you little prick".

A future name for the 100 Club?

No deaths involved but...

Chris Eubank had his manbag and some chocolate stolen in London. I have vague memories of a similarly embarrassing incident for another former world champ, Lloyd Honeyghan, who was mugged by schoolgirls outside a florists shop run by his family. Seriously, what happens to these guys once they lose the urge to fight?

Now 90, here's a recent article:

https://sports.yahoo.com/on-his-90th-birthday-bob-arum-still-has-no-plans-to-retire-i-love-this-too-much-184855796.html

“I can’t run and I can’t walk as far as I used to, but one thing that is important is I think my mind is as sharp as ever, and that’s the most important muscle in the body,” Arum said. “As you get older, as old as I am, there is a pull, a tug, to say, aw f*** it, I can’t do this. I can’t do that. Or maybe it’s ‘I don’t want to do this interview,’ or ‘I don’t want to go to this press conference.’ But you can’t let yourself be captured by that or you’ll be overwhelmed.”

So, it comes as no surprise that Arum fully plans to be promoting fights on Dec. 8, 2031, when he turns 100.

“If God gives me the ability to live that long and stay around for 10 more years, as long as I am able, I will continue to promote fights,” Arum said. “If I’m disabled, of course, that’s different. But I’ll never voluntarily retire or walk away. I love this too much.”

Watching that Bruno/Tyson documentary from last year and Colin Hart turns up as an audio only interviewee. He sounds like death warmed up, to the point I presumed it was archive audio and went to look for his date of death. Apparently still alive, for now anyhow...

Are unforeseen Circumstances health reasons I wonder for the retirement at 26 of Boxer Kash Farooq.

Aye, could be, though - just a guess - maybe summat like a retinal issue that could lead to detachment if he went on fighting. A 26 year old with 16 wins in 17 scraps isn't your usual retiree in boxing.

Volodymyr Virchis found dead at age 44 from hanging. Was one of the "former Soviet bloc fighting out of Germany" gang that dominated the heavyweight division in the mid-00s, beat all the usual British jobbers flown over to lose to him (Julius Francis, Michael Sprott) before his career got derailed by a mixed decision loss to Ruslan Chagaev.

Somewhat schizophrenic thought of mine: Vitaly Klitschko, the former boxing champion and now mayor of Kiev, might be a Cup possibility...

If that's a schizophrenic thought then I'm in trouble too. I'm guessing there'll be a few war-related punts fielded in March in the hope of snagging a win in round two.
