I thought that there was an actual Pub Quiz thread, but I can't seem to find it. Anyhow, it was a friend of mine's birthday and, in the evening, we all went to a pub quiz and ended up winning it all. What was disappointing, however, was that there was an entire round on death (not dead people, but death, the processes etc.) and that was one of our worst rounds. I was pretty depressed... I can't remember the last time I was wrong on a "dead or alive" question, but I guess I'm no good at the rest of it. I did correctly identify that hair and fingernails continuing to grow after death was false, but who would have known that fat people decompose quicker than skinny people, or that morticians use super glue to keep the jaws of corpses from popping open?

Damn, I was hoping that my rotting corpse would hang around for ages annoying people and being smelly, much as I do in life.

You can get canned rhubarb, and I'm sure you can get frozen asparagus. Not too sure about the cricket answer though!

HCW, rhubarb and asparagus are the perennials, not the unprocessed vegetables (i agree with your lettuce for that)

Some awesome answering there guys, though I'm afraid the Carlisle United messageboard demolished this more rapidly. Then again, there's a stack of folks on there with no jobs. Answers as I got them in the e-mail are:

1.A Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the

participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends.

Boxing - Though the Americans who compiled the quiz didn't seem to consider the posting of ongoing scores in Olympic bouts.

2.A What famous North American landmark is constantly moving backward?

Niagra Falls, erosion of course. Then again, if you argue other waterfalls may also be landmarks, the same forces apply.

3.A Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce on their own for

several growing seasons.A All other vegetables must be replanted every year.A What are the only two perennial vegetables?

Rhubarb and Asparagus, apparently.

Dunno if they missed artichokes or if artichokes all die a year or two down the line.

4.A What fruit has its seeds on the outside?

Strawberry.

5.A In many liquor stores,A you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear

inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is

genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle?

Yep, it grows there.

6.A A Only three words in standard English begin with the letters 'dw'

and they are all common words.A Name two of them.

Dwarf, dwindle, dwell........and their offshoots, obviously.

7.A There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar.A Can you name at least half of them?A

We've done loads and the compilers probably intended you answer this without a keyboard in front of you.

8.A Name the only vegetable or fruit that is never sold frozen, canned,

processed, cooked, or in any other form except fresh.

Lettuce consider whether Lardy was right with her Kumquat.......nope, not according to the answers.

9.A Name 6 or more things that you can wear on your feet beginning with the letter 'S.'

Seals, sh*t, smegma, skirt......well you could wear anything.

But we've got at least 6 sensible answers before this post eh?

Quite liked this one, guess the murder location from the victims name. I didn't do as well as I'd hoped (19/30)

You did better than me. I got 17. Could have kicked myself over some of the answers I missed!
