Eh? China and Western Europe I'll give you (although Sweden has been historically strong in the sport), but if you count Russia and the USSR as two different countries, then the US has won more medals in wrestling than anyone else. I think the real problem is money and tv ratings are driving these decisions and the IOC is pushing hard to have professionals and superstars competing in every sport they possibly can nowadays in order to spike audience interest (that was one of the factors in the IOC's decision to drop baseball in '08, because the US baseball clubs refused to release the pros in midseason to go compete in the Olympics) - but wrestling is in a unique position as probably the only sport on the Olympic roster where participation by the "professionals" would generally make it LOSE credibility with the public (insert your own jokes here about pre-scripted matches and easily distracted referees). That was very much the joke I had in mind this morning at 8am as I walked to work... (All delivered in heavy South African accents)... "Hello, it that the Pretoria Police Department?" "Yes Sir" "This is the South African Olympic Commitee..." "How can we help you?" "...Could you please tell Oscar Pistorius he has successfully qualified for our Shooting Team..." But seriously... What a sad turn and early end to two people's lives who many would say had so much going for their futures. Whether together or apart, no one should resort to killing a partner.
