Just had to share this pic.. Han is 81 now, still doing great, but tonight he got a honorary award together with André Rieu

There are reports that jazz artist Carla Bley has passed away aged 87. She was a pianist, organist, bandleader and composer, as much inspired by jazz as classical, religious and folk music.

My father was listening to her When I was young, that name was familiar. A unique DDP hit

Jazz drummer Mark Mondesir had stage 4 colon cancer, but is now cancer-free after very invasive surgery:

He's important enough for a wikipedia page, in case it comes back: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Mondesir

Edit: Though actually, he's not just cancer-free, but got the "all clear", i.e. 5 years without cancer, so maybe a VERY distant possibility.

Played the sax on "Christmas Wrapping", so maybe QO-worthy?

He’s the goddamn sax player for the Psychedelic Furs - what could be a more guarantee of a QO?  C’mon man.

Didn't even realise she was a jazz singer. In the UK she's exclusively known for her cover of "California Soul", which is used time and time again in adverts trying to sell fatty processed American food and drink to us.

Charles Boles, a Detroit jazz pianist who toured with the likes of B.B. King, Etta James, and Marvin Gaye, and was a musical director for Aretha Franklin early in her career, has died. He was 91.

This would have been TWO hits for my Made In Detroit team had I bothered to turn it in.  You’ve done your homework @alt obits guy if you’re finding links to the Metro Times.

Shame.  Have been on a Canterbury kick in the car recently.  Just moved from Caravan to Egg yesterday.
