Regular in their 66-67 title winning side but almost killed in a car crash before the end of the season, and never regained full fitness though United kept faith and tried to bring him back. Point being, without the car accident it's fairly likely he'd have still been there a season later to play in that European Cup final.

We nearly had one a few years ago with Gerard Houllier. Prime contenders for me would be Neil Warnock and Luiz Felipe Scolari. There are also a number of famous ex managers who are getting on a bit. Bobby Robson's health problems are well documented, Mario Zagallo is well into his seventies and has suffered from an irregular heart-beat in the past, and it will surely only be a matter of time until Cesar Luis Menotti is diagnosed with lung cancer. Only 16 years later, Cesar Luis Menotti hospitalised in very delicate condition.

Sinbabad 1,125 Posted September 2, 2023 One of the best African players ever, Malian Salif Keita, has died aged 76. Truly a Saint Étienne and Ligue 1 legend. During the 1970-1971 with Saint Étienne he scored 42 goals ! However he wasn’t the top scorer as Yugoslavian Skoblar from Marseille scored 44 times ! Keita and Skoblar are the only two people in the history of Ligue 1 to score 40 goals or more in one season ! He was the first Sub Saharan African to play in France and Spain. In 1973 he was the second player of Africa CAF (after Moroccan Abdallah Ben Barek from 1957 to 1968) to play in La Liga with Valencia.
