Bobby Tambling currently in hospital - has had dementia for a while. (The fundraiser calls it early onset but he is 81 and was still able to visit Chelsea’s training a couple of of weeks so I’m not sure that is what I say is early onset dementia. )

Former Southampton and Bournemouth winger John Flood reported dead aged 90: https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/23522555.former-southampton-fc-winger-john-flood-died-aged-90/

Apparently up to then the oldest living Southampton player according to the report, but I couldn't find him mentioned on the Oldest Players thread, @Octopus of Odstock.

Edit: Wait, I found it. The gap in the list is causing the search to miss the names.

Hugh Strachan a centre back who is best known for his spells at Greenock Morton and Partick Thistle has died aged 84

A really good accomplished player who I saw in his time at Morton helping us win the old Second Division in seasons 1963/64 and 1966/67.

Nothing in the newspapers yet but  being reported on very reliable Facebook pages.

Won the League Cup with the Jags in 1971. The losing Celtic side was made up of Lisbon Lions, those who lost the European Cup final to Feyenoord and Kenny Dalglish. RIP Hugh, a true legend.

Btw, it's the 10th anniversary of our last promotion to the top tier. This is just for you so enjoy!

Since this post, Terry O’Neill, who led Arsenal to the 1980 CWC final has died on 28 July 2022.

Also, Walter Smith, who guided Glasgow Rangers to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final, has died on 26 October 2021. He’s the only manager post 2002 finals to die.

Thanks, I forgot Terry Neill was on this list.

Maybe I will give the list a bit of a clean-up after the European finals of this season have all been played.

Sheffield Wednesday have announced the death of former physio Alan Smith, who famously saved Paul Warhurst when he 'swallowed his tongue' following a clash of heads in a UEFA Cup tie. He was also physio for the national team from 1986.

Shocking news. He hasn’t played this season for them but he was on the bench just last night when they won the league. He was also at Euro 2016 for Spain and played in the PL for a season at Fulham.

Celtic won the Scottish Cup today, beating plucky but limited lower league side Inverness.

Famously, Inverness beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup at Parkhead back in February 2000, and the BBC showed an entertaining documentary about that match last night, ahead of this years Cup final. A repeat from 2020. Lots of talking heads in it, from Jonathan Gould to several of the Inverness team.

Not appearing at all is the Inverness manager of the time, Steve Paterson. At one time the big new thing in Scottish football, his career fell apart at Aberdeen in 2003 when his alcohol issues got in the way of his job. Some minor jobs afterwards, before tailing off into drink, gambling debts and domestic issues.

He's 65 now, was in court last year over a domestic assault charge, and did an interview this week to the Press and Journal talking up his future in football (!) but now in his mid 60s and with four decades of extensive addiction on the go, one we should keep a closer eye on, imo.
