Steve Bruce on compassionate leave after his father died.

Note the second line...

Aston Villa is 0-for-2 on obits for actual players in 2018, to concern whether the parent of a player will obit is far-fetched indeed.  But you know how it goes, just when you think you've figured out obit chances....a fly ends up in the ointment.

Notes for Sir Creep: Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is better known as former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce, the first man to captain an English side to the league and Cup double in 100 years back in the 90s. His mum will get a "Bruce mourns mum" QO in the same way the mum of some nobody who was in charge of Villa for 5 games wont.

Part of the 1992 and 1995 Cup final losing teams. Think he was in the team that won the Challenge Cup in 95 too?

Journeyman Bulgarian defender Georgi Markov dead at 46, via a heart attack not umbrella poisoning. He scored Bulgaria's goal in the 1-1 draw with England in a 1999 European Championship qualifier.

A significant heart attack? Given he's dead.

Anyhow, came on as a sub in the 82 World cup in the famous match Northern Ireland beat Spain 1-0.

PS Before my time, but looking up his history, YWillz or Charon might have memories of his double at Hampden which likely meant Spain qualified for the Euro 76 Quarters, instead of Scotland? Only got 8 goals for Spain, and 3 of them were against Scotland FFS!

Since Marc-Vivien Foé? Although that was more dramatic since he died on the pitch. (Honorable mention goes to Antonio Puerta, but he was perhaps not at the height of his career yet.)
