time 8,616 Posted March 27, 2014 Pawnbroker Albemarle & Bond has appointed administrators and trading of its shares has been suspended, having lost 97% of their value in the last year. I'm not sure whether this is a sign of an improving economy or if we've really hit rock bottom.

Deathray 2,940 Posted March 28, 2014 Could Top Gear get sued off the air for a racial remark? http://www.dailymail...ma-special.html I'm not sure if they can prove that Clarkson meant the word "slope" as a racial slur, instead of referring to the bridge being sloped. But you never know. Whilst I really can't see the issue with it here, Top Gear were definitely attempting a casually racist joke there.

Toast 16,142 Posted July 26, 2014 (edited) I'm not sure if there is a Demolition Thread, if not perhaps there should be. Anyway, it is a sad day in Didcot as three of the iconic cooling towers of Didcot Power station are due to be blown up in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Expect thousands of people to turn out in spite of RWE Npower's killjoy efforts to stop people watching. Until last year when Didcot A was decommissioned, the six towers, as well as being a landmark for many miles around, were much-loved "cloud factories" http://www.bbc.co.uk...dshire-28487288 (with link to live streaming - if you're awake at that hour) Edit to add - that is bloody annoying. I have posted images from Geograph often before without those crappy labels appearing and ruining the photos. I have contributed to the site myself and disapprove of this new development. Toast 16,142 Posted July 27, 2014 Well, I'm not normally up at this hour, but was up all night partying at a vantage point some miles from the towers, awaiting the blowdown which finally occurred about 5 am. Great community spirit with champagne and bacon sandwiches all round.

Galento 24 Posted August 16, 2014 Keep a look-out for Punch Taverns, who are deep in the shit. These people, along with Enterprise Inns control a huge portion of the British Pub industry, but the worry for any Punch licensee is that the bond that was put down when they went into the pub, and which should have been ring-fenced has been thrown into the Punch Taverns cashpot. In most cases, this could mean several thousand pounds which will be lost if the company folds. It doesn't matter where you live in the UK, there will be a Punch Tavern pub somewhere nearby, so if you talk to the licensee, he will tell you the true story. Chopped Liver 53 Posted August 18, 2014 DePuy. After the ASR Hip recall, they are pretty much screwed. Ditto for Stryker and Zimmer. Also SÅS. Scandinavian Airlines are doomed.

the_engineer 1,415 Posted August 26, 2014 Malaysia Airlines. After MH370 and MH17, their reputation is ruined. How can they financially survive ? Large chunks of the staff are leaving and they are basically flying on most routes A380's less than 25% full . http://nypost.com/2014/08/26/malaysian-airlines-is-now-a-flying-ghost-town/ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2734540/Afraid-fly-pressure-family-members-How-200-cabin-crew-quit-Malaysia-Airlines-wake-double-tragedy.html They say lightening doesn't strike twice, but when it does you can damn well be sure the majority of people aren't taking the gamble of it striking for a 3rd time.
