Yesterday the Mayor of Tirana decorated the honorable professors who were persecuted during the time of communism and who survived the dark dictatorship.

 

Here is the photo of three persucated academicians (one of them was Ismet Elezi, world war II veteran)

Other is Shaul Ladany (wiki) who was born in 1936 and is still alive.

Vaso Stamatiou, the last (or possibly one of the last) Greek survivors of Auschwitz, has died. She was 98.

In the context of Ben Ferencz' death, I was wondering how many eyewitnesses of the top Nazi echelon there might still be. I forgot about Ruf though.

I assume the last people who saw Hitler eye to eye were those unfortunate 16 year old boys of the Volkssturm.

Never saw Hitler but definitely saw top Nazis - Soviet TV boss Enver Mamedov was a handler of atleast Nazi field marshal Friedrich Paulus during the Nurnberg trials.

Seems like one anonymous comfort woman has recently died, as according to this Wikipedia page there are only 9 left in South Korea. Three of them are anonymous.

 

Some of the remaining survivors met last month:

L-R: Lee Yong-soo (94), Park Ok-seon - correct spelling? Korean name 박옥선 (99) and Kang Il-Chul 강일출 (94). Couldn't find if it was mentioned who the fourth person is. Lee Yong-soo seems to be doing amazing for 94.

Frida Werkstel (Hebrew wiki) Holocaust survivor (Vilna Ghetto, Dachau) who later joined militant group Lehi and participated in the Cairo–Haifa train bombings of 1948 (and eventually joined the IDF Medical Corps in 1949), dead at 101.

 

I wonder how many Lehi members there are left as it's mentioned she was the oldest living member at the time of her death. The group was dissolved in May 1948. There are three marked living on the Hebrew Wikipedia - Ezra Yachin (95), Yehuda Naut (98/99) and Eliezer Ben-Ami (99, most known for assembling "orange grenades" one of which was used as a suicide grenade by Meir Feinstein and Moshe Barazani in 1947)

Ukrainian professor Ihor Kozlovskyi who was caught by Russians/the Donetsk puppet govt in 2016 and survived ~700 days of imprisonment and torture, dead at 69 from a heart attack.
