RIP Wee Jum 1,559 Posted November 3, 2014 I know they never participated in the Royal Rumble match, other people on the card for potential Royal Rumble(rs) 'Mean' Gene Okerlund - The interviewer and announcer turns 72 this month, and has had two kidney transplants Howard 'The Fink' Finkel - Extremely obese (see him recently in WWE Legends House). 64 years old now The Tonga Kid - His brother Umaga died of a heart attack and Tongans are not known to be the healthiest of people Bobby Heenan - We all know about his recent struggles Pat Patterson - underwent emergency heart surgery and 73 years old The Genius - Brother of The Macho Man, who died of a heart attack, but on the other side his father (Angelo Poffo) lived until he was 84 Mr Fuji - getting on at the age of
Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted November 3, 2014 With the Royal Rumble around the corner (January counts) and with Spade noting the recent propensity for The Sun to obit vaguely famous pro-wrestlers, I decided to create a stupidly long list. More than WrestleMania or the titles, the Rumble is the snapshot of Vince McMahon's world each year, with a high number of decorated performers (and the Red Rooster) who would get obits. First off, here are the all the royal rumbles, with the competitors who are now deceased. 1988 - Ultimate Warrior, Dino Bravo, Junkyard Dog (3 dead, 17 alive of 20) 1989 - Andre the Giant, Mr Perfect, Bad News Brown, Randy Savage, Big Bossman, Big John Studd, Hercules (7, 23/30) 1990 - Randy Savage, Bad News Brown, Andre the Giant, Dino Bravo, Earthquake, Warrior, Rick Rude, Hercules, Mr Perfect (9, 21/30) 1991 - Dino Bravo, Texas Tornado, Hercules, Bulldog, Hawk, Randy Savage, Crush, Earthquake, Mr Perfect (9, 21/30) 1992 - Bulldog, Tornado, Bossman, Hercules, Randy Savage (5, 25/30) 1993 - Mr Perfect, Earthquake, Yokozuna, Owen Hart, Randy Savage (5, 25/30) 1994 - Owen Hart, Randy Savage, Crush, Bam Bam Bigelow, Mabel, Bastion Booger (6, 24/30) 1995 - Bulldog, Owen, Mabel, Dick Murdoch, Steven Dunn, Crush (6, 24/30) 1996 - Mabel, Yokozuna, Owen Hart, Bulldog (4, 26/30) 1997 - Crush, Bulldog, Owen (3, 27/30) 1998 - Owen Hart (1, 26/27) 1999 - Mabel, Test, Bossman, Owen (4, 26/30) 2000 - Viscera, Bossman, Test, Bulldog, Crash Holly (5, 25/30) 2001 - Test, Crash (2, 28/30) 2002 - Bossman, Test, Mr Perfect (3, 27/30) 2003 - Eddie Guerrero, Test, Jamal/Umaga (3, 27/30) 2004 - Benoit (1, 29/30) 2005 - Eddie, Benoit, Viscera (3, 27/30) 2006 - Benoit, Viscera (2, 28/30) 2007 - Benoit, Viscera (2, 28/30) * 2008 - Umaga, Viscera (2, 28/30) 2009 - all living (30/30) 2010 - all living (30/30) 2011 - all living (40/40) 2012 - all living (30/30) 2013 - all living (30/30) 2014 - all living (30/30) Some close calls with the last few though including Matt Hardy's DUI/fake suicide/madness in 2010, R-Truth's nearly fatal pneumonia in 2010, and Jerry Lawler's becoming a zombie in 2012. I've also cheated including Booger in 1994 and Savage in 1991, but they were mentioned as having "skipped" the match on the commentary, whilst there was no PPV explanation for DOA Skull missing out in the 1998 one. So, with all that worked out, a look at potential DDP types from the Rumble. Bret Hart - Stroke in 2002, Post-Concussion Syndrome too, but seems to have mended well since then. On the other hand, he's a Hart, so he might get eaten by a holidaying crocodile in Calgary tomorrow. He's not going to die anytime soon, but is a definite obit when the time comes. Jim Neidhart - Bret's brother in law. Recently a jailbird, drug issues, and looks like hell. He's 60 next year, he'd do well if he sees 65. Jake Roberts - You know him. Attracting cancer like an Express headline just now. A certain obit. Either an excellent pick because hes got a lot of nasty health issues that would see off a normal man and is a recovering mega drug and alcohol addict. Or not, because he's Jake and he survives. Harley Race - Aging legend, survived polio, obit certainty. But will surely go on for another decade or there abouts. Don Muraco - Former steroid user who let himself go and is 66 next year. Hacksaw Jim Duggan - Survived kidney cancer. On the pudgy side and 61 next year. Sam Houston - Unlikely to obit unless part of the Jake story (they are brothers) but a long term jailbird and has drug issues. Demolition Ax - heart issues Marty Jannetty - drugged up incoherent mess, likely obit due to relationship with Shawn Michaels. One of my top contenders for least surprising future Spade or Lewd Squirrel death update in this thread in the future. 54 next year. The Warlord - He was to steroids what Bill Gates is to making money. A risky obit (he had runs in the NWA and WWF, and a feud with the British Bulldog) but frankly I'm surprisd he's still alive. 53 next year. Dusty Rhodes - Fat and nearly 70. Paul Roma - Only 54, and no idea on health, but the loud idiots in wrestling tend to find early graves. See O'Haire, Sean. Also see the future mention of Billy Jack Haynes in this thread, circa 2015/2016. Ric Flair - Ignores blood clots till the last minute, flies with them, drinks to excess, doesn't take care of himself. If he sees 70, its a miracle. (He's 66 next year) Obit guaranteed. Sid - Favourite big man, hospitalised for a month with heart issues last year. 55 next year. Chyna - Yeah, the question is when, not if. Mick Foley - Multiple concussions, memory issues as a result. Injured everything at least once. Best selling author too and RAINN spokesperson so obit guaranteed. Seems (sadly) nailed on to do a Rik Mayall at some point. There's also the Curse of 14th place (people who take this spot seem to die prematurely according to fan lore) which points at: Jannetty, Haku, Berzerker, 2nd Doink the Clown, Jacob Blu, Doug Gilbert, Goldust, Ken Shamrock, Kurrgann, Bob Backlund, The Goodfather, DDP, Rikishi, Orlando Jordan, Joey Mercury, Jeff Hardy, Finlay, MVP, Chris Masters, Jinder Mahal, Rey Mysterio, Kevin Nash. Most of whom have their own health or addiction issues. Or are Bob Backlund. Or Haku. *When you consider 2 of the World title challengers at the 2007 PPV (Umaga and Test) are dead too, Mr Kennedy must be shitting himself. Erm, the traditional thing is to list survivors of each year/event/whatever you're listing, dummy. Also listing the real names of the performers alongside the name they wrestled under would be good. msc 18,397 Posted November 3, 2014 Um, Doink the Clown died, a few years ago, well at least tho original one did. Also. Wasn't Ludwig Borga in one of the Rumbles? He died the same year that bastion booger died. Ludvig Borga shot himself in 2010, yes, but never made a Rumble. He was scheduled for a preliminary match for the 1994 one but injured long before it. And the first Doink, Matt Borne, died. The second, Phil Apollo, and whoever else has played the role is still in the land of the living. By the time of Doink's rumble debut, Borne had left the WWE. Erm, the traditional thing is to list survivors of each year/event/whatever you're listing, dummy. Also listing the real names of the performers alongside the name they wrestled under would be good. In the same way Captain Beefheart went down on the DDP and Deathlist as Captain Beefheart and not Don, wrestlers are known in real life by their stage names mostly, except in the odd ocassion that the guy behind the character becomes as well known outwith. And sometimes different wrestlers played the same character. i.e. Doink the Clown! And why not their ages as of today (or put their year of birth depending on which you feel like.) Just for the sake of being thorough. If you're gonna bother to make a list that long why not make it good.
the_engineer 1,414 Posted November 3, 2014 Chyna has turned her life around now she is off the drugs and eating fruit and veg by the bucket load and exercising !! Looks alot better and seems to be in a better place mentally , though she still can't let the Triple H ,steph thing go. Be surprised if she would die but she has admitted trying suicide before in the past so i guess that wouldn't be out of the question in the future. https://www.youtube....hBN2N_eCd1GEJmA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQtVgyr__so&index=4&list=UUl3UAzDmhBN2N_eCd1GEJmA
Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted November 4, 2014 I know they never participated in the Royal Rumble match, other people on the card for potential Royal Rumble(rs) 'Mean' Gene Okerlund - The interviewer and announcer turns 72 this month, and has had two kidney transplants Plus he has a history of Howard 'The Fink' Finkel - Extremely obese (see him recently in WWE Legends House). 64 years old now Wow, yeah. I've seen him in pics and vids recently but I just never really put his weight and his age together (probably cos I'm a big Fink fan). I wouldn't quite say extremely obese but he is really quite the fatass these days. He could definitely stand to lose a few pounds. Pat Patterson - underwent emergency heart surgery and 73 years old He is very relevant 'cause he invented the concept of the rumble.
Spade_Cooley 9,474 Posted November 4, 2014 Marty Jannetty is the one that stuns me: you always feel that Hall, Roberts et al have reached the Keith Richards stage where they've basically become immune to drug abuse. Jannetty, on the other hand, is a permanent bombsite of a human being, plus his ankle has fused the wrong way round because he hasn't got enough money to get it seen to. The wrestler deaths I'd expect in the next few years, ignoring the ancient (Verne Gagne) and the young OD potentials (Travis Tomko) would be: Bobby Eaton, Ole Anderson, Kamala. CaptainChorizo 1,969 Posted November 9, 2014 I would throw in Abdullah The Butcher as a high potential death. The guy turns 74 next month and is extremely obese and has Hep C

the_engineer 1,414 Posted December 16, 2014 Well we always get one big wrestling death a year this year it was the ultimate warrior who will it be in 2015? I thinking jake the snake roberts or lex luger though if you look back in the early 90s at some wwe ppv's at least half the performers are dead especially near the top of the card apart from hulk hogan. Hulk hogan is an interesting one will he go into old age or won't he be here in 10 years time? pic of lex luger in 2013 , but he is a man utd fan and they all look rough so make of it what you will http://www.prowrestling.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Recent-Photo-of-Lex-Luger-and-Scott-Hall.jpg

I remember watching that live on TV and waking up my mum and she was like its just part of the show and you shouldn't be up watching it go to bed. I subsequently watched the rest of it and had to get up for school like 4 hours later . Everyone was talking about it in school the next day but some were saying it was a storyline and others saying it was real etc . I know Owen Hart hit the ropes / turnbuckle , I wonder if he just fell straight on the ring would he of survived ?

God bless, I know you were a little bit younger than me when it happened but still. I guess the death must have really shocked the shit out of you. Lucky we didn't actually see him fall I guess, fuck knows what our reactions would have been like. I wouldn't have even woke my mum up if Bill Clinton or one of her favourite 70s pop stars showed up for a guest appearance and ended up dying in the ring after taking a botched piledriver from Billy Gunn! Ok granted that's more to do with my completely justifiable seething hatred and total contempt of her which existed about only 30% as strongly then as it does now, but still strong enough. Did you "know" it was real? I thought everyone did by the way JR was talking and the look on Lawler's face, it was so fucking obviously real. Can't believe you woke a parent up about it, wasn't staying up until 3 or 4AM to watch Americans hitting each other with steel folding chairs an act of "rebellion" to you like it was to me? Haha it wasn't i woke her up not because i was shocked or scared more of waking her up to tell her as sometimes she would watch wrestling with me in the days of only having one TV in the house. So i had no clue if it was real or not at the time though I was leaning towards it being part of the show , because if I remember right wasn't his gimmick at that time like a bumbling superhero ? and cmon JR has done that serious voice before and said 'and they say they learn how to fall' 'and this is real right here folks' etc Yea i understand what you mean about staying up or sneaking downstairs when you should be asleep for school the next day, i was allowed to stay up and watch the PPVs as long as I went to school the next day otherwise i wouldn't be allowed to stay up the next PPV my mum was and still is a pretty cool mum. In a car crash. With the family dog in the front seat. "Seasoned minds" in the vicinity pretty much knew he was screwed I think. I know this is selfish but for me one of the worst things was how it was reported on TV/in the papers that he was "playing the character of The Blue Blazer", and obviously your average punter wouldn't have known that it was only a short-time "ironic" superhero gimmick that was supposed to be taking the piss and probably would have been ditched about 2 weeks later, so they would have all been sat there thinking that we rasslin fans were still getting excited over wannabe "superheroes" in blue masks just like the cornball HULL COGAN ERA, BROTHER, instead of us being fans of the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock etc.... God how sad would that be, tons of young people getting excited over stupid asinine superhe...... oh wait Yea i understand what you mean about staying up or sneaking downstairs when you should be asleep for school the next day, i was allowed to stay up and watch the PPVs as long as I went to school the next day otherwise i wouldn't be allowed to stay up the next PPV my mum was and still is a pretty cool mum. Speaking of angles (see what i did there) Kurt angle looks just f##king ill and its sad to see him like that. He reminds me of the ultimate warrior bright red ,sweating, swollen up and heavy breathing , though the ultimate warrior was like that for a few years. I would be surprised if kurt angle lives past his 50s if he continues to abuse his body, he is 46 now he may not even make it to his 50s.

Haven't seen TNA in ages. Will try to catch it soon. Is he abusing painkillers still? Sorry I don't keep up with wrasslin news either. Wasn't there a rumour for a while he had HIV?(!) He has looked terrible for about a decade now though hasn't he?
