The guys have to both choose each other whereas in Love Island a person can be chosen to be coupled up with another even if they are not interested. 

It is not a competition like Love Island so there is no winners Crown or prize money. There is no first.  Its all about if the couples themselves decide they want to continue a romantic relationship post show.

There is a huge diverse range of gay guys in all different regards, level of campness, dress sense, body shape and weight, ethnic background etc .The presenter actually appears in every episode ie Lots of Danni Minogue. 

The casting team also seem to have sifted out those who are primarily just fame hunters and not geniunely interested in a relationship.  It is not filmed live or currently with viewers votes eliminating people.  It was filmed late august September 2022 and broadcast in May. 

I'm sure there's more differences  but I'm wilting in the heat! But overall  its less stereotypical and less pressurised and feels more genuine and less scripted.

Just finished watching Popmaster TV.

 

I speak as someone who has never heard the radio version.

 

Suffers from the same problem as the BBC's The Hit List. The buzz in rounds generally barely allow for a few notes and the contestants have answered before you can open your mouth. It was ok, I'll watch the rest this week, but gawd it needs a bit more variety in the categories.

Out of curiosity and not being able to wait a couple of weeks for the new series of Taskmaster, we started watching the New Zealand version which recently dropped on Channel 4's On Demand thing. Unsurprisingly we'd never heard of any of the contestants and, obviously, nobody could possibly come close to our TM Greg Davies, but it's still pretty good. And the assistant Paul Williams is cute.

My wife has just finished watching a binge watch of the Tenko boxer. Surprised at how damn good this was and made me pine for the days of superior BBC dramas

I've managed to nab a 3 month free trial of Apple TV and have started watching Slow Horses.

If I hadn't read the book I would have given up after the first 5 minutes.  Rapid incomprehensible dialogue and even the subtitles went too fast to read.  The diction and enunciation of most of the actors is deplorable.

 

I've also been watching I Claudius. Back in those days, actors knew how to deliver lines.

I watch most things with subtitles these days, which I put down to deteriorating hearing, however, I watch M*A*S*H and Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) on Great! TV and find I can manage perfectly well without subtitles.  Clearer enunciation and no overwhelming background music! The 60s and 70s could teach today's programme makers a thing or two.

One Piece on Netflix. I'm a little surprised by how much I like it. Currently episode six. I actually like the actors, even the child actors. The characters are not that realistic, they're like video game characters. But it's just damn entertaining. Just now, the warlord Mihawk, very good!

 

Edit: The child actors are adults. Huh.... cant tell 16 apart from 20 anymore.

We've just done the entire S4 (final season) of Sex Education in one big long sitting. OH was very dubious beforehand and I had an open mind but didn't know what to expect of it. We both adored it.

 

So many genuinely powerful and emotional moments this series, but the writers know exactly when to throw in a moment of levity just enough to bring you back up again. Tears one moment, laughter the next. It is a joyous world to be immersed in and you get so, so attached to so many of the characters that you yearn to be there, in their world. What a series. What a show. I can't wait to escape reality for a bit and watch it all start to finish again.

 

I also wish the show was around when I was secondary school age. It'd have helped me and countless other adolescents a great deal.

Everyone who i've talked to (including myself) say the same thing. It would have helped me a lot as I thought everyone was fucking around (I mean some were) and I thought it was weird to not feel ready to have sex aged 16-18. There wasn't even any LGBT+ groups at school or college at the time.

 

Now when I went to college in my early 20's to retake my GCSE English I saw there was and it made me smile.

See, I only left school in 2012, but even as recently ago as that, things were comparably dreadful. Attitudes toward LGBT+ people were still such that I didn’t “allow” myself to be myself until about five years after leaving, and I’m one of several in my year group who’ll say that. Ace people weren’t even a thing. ‘Trans’ meant dressing up as the opposite sex for a laugh. And among straight people (as I tried to be back then), it seemed to be a competition to lose your V’s, and sex was meant to be as it appeared in the most popular porn sites at the time. Any openness about sex that wasn’t either bragging or, I suspect quite often false, was just weird. I only went to college one day a week but it was the same there too.
 

If Sex Education had been a thing back then, young people of my generation and earlier wouldn’t have felt so isolated, pressured, confused or insecure. There’s a lot that can be said for simply feeling seen.

 

I haven’t been back to school since but it must’ve been great for you to see the positive change!

Restaurant-based drama Boiling Point. There's the 90-minute feature film from 2021 which was filmed in a single take, available to watch on Channel 4, and a 4-part follow up series which is on BBC iPlayer. The building drama in the film was great enough (as was Stephen Graham's acting, as ever), but the character building and their separate stories in the TV series just took it to another level. It's crying out for another series. Loved it.

I've reluctantly subscribed to Netflix again so that I can watch Sex Education, Black Mirror and the conclusion of The Last Kingdom.

It will only be for one month though, as I object to their association with the Traitor and the Trollop.
