British Rally Driver legend Russell Brookes dead at 74 years

https://www.motorsport.com/brc/news/british-rallying-legend-russell-brookes-dies/4589513/

He won the RAC Rally three consecutive years, from 1977 to 1979. He also won the British Rally Championship in 1977 and 1985.

Nice pic of the Manta! I remember watching him fly past in it during the 1985 Curcit of Ireland, it was a hell of race that year with Jimmy McRae Michele Mouton and Henri Toivonen!

Tom Belso gravely ill with stomach cancer. Chances of 2020 death, 100 per cent. Chances of obit about 20 per cent.

So, we'd likely be perusing the SPOTY list of the lost in search of late arriving points.

But if Jim Russell made the cut this year...

OoO has been reliable for many years in this dept. even without a reference.

I tend not to question it!

OoO *is* the reference.

Some of us work out our deadpool picks by form watching them off TV, Odstock works them out by having face to face chats...

That avatar of yours OoO - I could Google a league table or just rip some words from Wikipedia's summary of the 74-75 season:

24 August 1974: Carlisle United move to the top of the league after winning their first three games in the First Division.[9] In the Second Division, Old Trafford hosts its first Second Division game in 36 years as Manchester United beat Millwall 4–0, with Gerry Daly scoring a hat-trick and Stuart Pearson scoring the other goal.[10]

My apologies; I wasn't questioning his integrity, just looking for some further info. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a nice Nigerian prince on the other line.

Happy four days to be precise - we hit the top having beaten Chelsea, Middlesborough and Spurs without conceding a goal. The following Tuesday Boro got their revenge and by the end of the season we were bottom; which is where all the experts predicted we'd finish

Ah, that's why Carlisle man was up that chimney a few weeks back trying to relive those glorious times

Sadly for him his stay at the top was even shorter.

Fascinating...

here's the BILD report:

https://www.bild.de/sport/motorsport/motorsport/michael-schumacher-schumi-zur-geheim-behandlung-in-pariser-klinik-64528448.bild.html

Apparently, he's being treated by a heart surgeon, a specialist for heart insufficiency.

It's not the first type of secret treatment there.

Maybe Schumacher is heading for multiple organ failure?

I think you are half right.  He's being treated by a heart surgeon.  But NOT for heart condition.
I just discovered this fascinating blog response, and more importantly the brief comments at the end.  The idea, if the comments are correct, is that lithium is added to the stem cells and maybe just maybe it will regenerate brain growth/recovery.  IOW it's a heart treatment with possible benefits to other areas, including the brain.  I'll let you read/respond but I get the feeling, if true, that it could be a 'last effort' to make him 'better'.  Not sure if I have any conclusion whether it's a last effort overall, meaning he's about to die.  But clearly like any veggie he is kept alive however, and his body is fragile AF.  If you lean on the idea that this appears a last gasp effort by the family, you've 19 DDP names to go.

Despite being US based, he's been involved in so much for so long, he should get UK Obits.

Shame. I really like his commentary style on Formula E, was wondering why he missed the first race this season.

Will never know why he was rejected in AODP. Would have been three hit in three days.

Hmm - so he's turning out to be a bad pick for Banana and I on the DDP and me on the HPDP. Tbh when I Googled him last year I thought there was a marginal chance since he also set up a food company in Peterborough and sold it not that long ago, was - kind of - hoping that colorful collision of things would sneak him into BBC local obit contention.
