The thinking man's Andy Kershaw, Charlie Gillett, has died.

This could - just - be good news for the real and very much under-employed Mr Kershaw.

Billy Wolfe, former leader of the Scottish National Party, has died aged 86.

He is my first hit and a unique pick on the DDP - provided he gets a decent obit.

Edit: BBC link.

Margaret Moth - Camerawoman. I agonised over including her or not for ages - at least three or four minutes - and decided she probably wouldn't get an obit. She was going to be my secret, unique and young pick, but I had to let her go. (For some reason I'm getting that awful Barry Manilow song in my head now ..."You made me so happy, oh Margaret / Well you came and you gave without taking / but I sent you away, oh Margaret" :deathban: )

Moth heads for the flames.

Gudrun Wagner, the 63 year old wife of Bayreuth Festival organiser Wolfgang Wagner, has died. Not particularly notable in itself, but consider the fact that Wolfgang is 88 and is deeply embroiled in the constant internecine squabbling that has marked the Wagner family for generations and one may start to wonder if he'll be long following her out the door.

Wolfgang Wagner has died. Article below is in Danish.

Blues singer Marva Wright died.

A Dutch news site reported her death and since I'd never heard of this woman before (which isn't rare) I searched the BBC news website. Nothing. I stuck her name in Wikipedia, which returned no article and only references. Google gave me the LA Times link, but it seems to me she was world famous in Nu Awlins.

It seems that nu.nl has a secret blues loving editor.

regards,

Hein

Just been watching an episode of "Diagnosis Murder". Not only did we have Dick Van Dyke (81), but also guest stars Patrick MacNee (84), Robert Vaughn (74), Robert Culp (76) and Barbara Bain (75). Quite an array of possibilities talent there!

Robert Culp has died at the age of 79 after:

Hitting his head while taking a walk outside his home
:D

Presumably he fell over? Whatever, he's a unique pick on the DDP for Just One More Death... Lt. Columbo, unnatural death points TMIB?

He's certainly culpable for his own death, DDT...

Graves then Culp - Shaping up to be a bad year for spies. Who's next? I'll go with Martin Landau or Leonard Nimoy, both Mission Impossible, although Tom Cruise deserves death for those crappy films.

American crooner Johnny Maestro, lead singer of Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, is apparently suffering from cancer.

According to some of the comments left on his website in the last few hours, Johnny Maestro seems to have died. No other confirmation yet.

Molly Rimington another fiesty old British maiden, cracking bit in the obituary when she found herself in charge of WRENS billeted in a former brothel, and took to sleeping with a revolver under her pillow!

I've got Smyslov and Bronstein on my DDP team, but Spassky seems another good candidate Dead Grandmaster.

Vasily Smyslov died today, picked by no one on this year's DDP.

Wrong thread, but a nice hat nevertheless.

Oops.

Yes it is a very nice hat. Looking at the rest of the Coronation outfit they must have blown their entire budget on it...
