Tristan O'Tierney aged 35.

Codeveloped the Square payment app, then blew it all on drugs.

Fair, enough.

Jerry Merryman, one of the inventors of the electronic calculator, is no longer a merry man, as he has died.  He was 86.  Merryman was also the first person to realize that 07734 flipped upside down spells 'hello'.

I remember that the instruction manual for the first electronic calculator I bought in around 1970 said, "to check if your calculator is working correctly, multiply 12345679 by 63 to give the answer 777777777". It was at this point that my slide rule was put in the drawer never to be used again.

I remember 8th grade (so 1976?) biology teacher came in all giddy one day,  He held aloft what appeared and adding machine, but you held it in your hand, and wireless (though ‘wireless’ wasn’t a word yet).  He said he paid like $250 for the thing (1976 US dollars).

It was cool.

My memory is terrible, but about 35 years ago somebody showed me an ingenious  joke on a calculator about a woman who i think had a figure of 88-22-88,who goes to the doctor to get her size reduced .Anyway the gist was she ended up 55378008.Anybody have any clues or did I dream it.

Charles Sanna, developer of Swiss Miss instant hot chocolate died 13th  March, aged 101 (which is, coincidentally, the room number to which hot chocolate drinks should be consigned.).

James Lovelock was interviewed on the Today programme this morning.  He was talking about impending environmental Armageddon but was sounding coherent and chipper for a 99 year old.

James Lovelock is back just ahead of his 100 birthday.

Judge for yourselves if he's got another year in him: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/science-environment-48858692/james-lovelock-on-the-future-of-ai-and-climate-change

Hes clearly aged quite substantially in the last few years but I have hope he can last another six months to make his long OVERDUE debut on the main page.
