TAFKAG 70 Posted October 22, 2011 Sadly there doesn't seem to be an horologists thread, so the clocking off of watchmaker George Daniels will have to go here. As you probably know, he invented the co-axial escapement, which, by utilizing radial friction instead of sliding friction at the impulse surfaces, significantly reduces friction, theoretically resulting in longer service intervals and greater accuracy over time. Obviously.

Obviously. Anything that affords me greater accuracy is most welcome.

time 8,599 Posted October 24, 2011 TV producer/documentary maker Nigel Farrell died September 24, of pancreatic cancer. His output included The Village and An Island Parish; it was during the making of the latter that he was diagnosed with cancer, and wrote about it. He seems to have slipped beneath everyone's radar. Probably best remembered by viewers for A Place In France, doing up a house in France with his mate Nippi, and then later an ill-starred attempt at opening a curry house. Seemed a nice bloke but, gosh, someone should have knocked some sense into him in the various series of A Place In France.

Octopus of Odstock 2,195 Posted October 28, 2011 A couple of actors deaths to note, firstly Sue Lloyd of Crossroads and Ipcress File fame, and Mark Kingston Oh, for goodness sake, what a brutal year for British TV - I remember him well. A whole swathe of actors from the 1980's and 1990's have gone this year.
