After a long and distinguished career in journalism that included serving as editor in chief of USA TODAY, John Quinn died Tuesday in Rhode Island. 
His health had been failing for some time before he returned to the hospital Monday, according to those close to him and his family. He died among family Tuesday afternoon.

Along with having been top editor of USA TODAY, Quinn was also the president of the Gannett News Service and later the vice president of news at Gannett Co. Inc. before retiring in 1990.

Six months left is his default worst case scenario, apparently. He's hopefully of 2-3 years. No "oh I have metastases" or other helpful statements, so all opinion. In a Zevonesque enjoy every sandwich mood.

He sounded well .Pragmatic about limited time left but enjoying himself.Didnt mention pain or disability.

 

For the record has he ever written anything of note?Aside from his own blog and two guardian articles I cant find anything.Is he more of a cancer blogger than journalist.Or is there some important work he has done that I am overlooking.He has a lot of twitter followers and gets retweets from fairly big names.

Used to work for the Daily Mail, iirc and had a career in local newspapers before.

Swedish journalist Kim Wall, missing since August 11 after boarding a privately built submarine, died in an accident and was buried at sea, the vessel's owner Peter Madsen told a court hearing in Denmark.

Madsen, who has been charged with manslaughter, told a closed-door court hearing that he buried Wall at sea in an "unspecified place" in Køge Bay, according to a statement published by Copenhagen City Council on Monday.

Wall, 30, was on the Nautilus for a story she was writing on Madsen and the 17-meter submarine.

The jerk hacked all her limbs and head off and tried to sink them in the ocean (kind of like Dexter from the TV program with the same name.) There was a similar murder in Scandinavia a while back as well. Mmmmmmm could there be a connection?
