He posted this blog post a few days ago, the pertinent words being: Very sad news if he has died. I liked him a lot on Twitter and he taught me how to wear a crepe urine tray as a hat. Good to see that the remaining marquee names of British journalism still employ the practice of "banging out". One of the more visceral thrills in a modern-day newsroom, equalled only by TMZ reporting an A-lister's death.

Vinegar Tits 606 Posted December 29, 2018 Really sad news. Not his first brush with cancer and he faced its return and terminal diagnosis with strength and humour. He seemed a lovely bloke. RIP.
RadGuy 1,614 Posted December 29, 2018 Fuck, that's quite annoying for 2019 teams. But it makes my decision on who to joker a bit easier... Now I wonder if he'll obit in time for 2018 teams to score points? Seems like the type of name who doesn't get a QO until a week or two after dying... Death Impends 7,976 Posted December 29, 2018 No QO just yet, but the Watford Observer has posted an obit for Ricketts and it has a lot of emphasis on him doing work for the Guardian, him having a big Twitter following, etc. I think we'll be seeing something qualifying very shortly.
