DevonDeathTrip 2,366 Posted November 17, 2017 Riina missed out on a birthday bonus by just four hours.
Spade_Cooley 9,639 Posted November 17, 2017 My favourite Riina memory is still him taking a break from his supertrial in 1996 to criticise Arrigo Sacchi's tactics for the 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic at the European Championships . Just googled it: Quote Since the 2-1 defeat by the Czech Republic last Friday, Sacchi's compatriots have been queuing to stick the verbal knife in. Salvatore Riina, the self- styled Mafia boss of bosses, is standing trial in Florence at the moment but still took time to tell a lawyer, "Sacchi uses suicide tactics and suicide choices". 1
Joey Russ 7,270 Posted November 17, 2017 He was interesting enough for me that I had to play him in the Poker Tournament. Not only were his crimes very significant, but he also was a survivor of DQSBP’s original lineup. I had that same gut feeling with him as well as Brady, but he was also getting to the age that they probably weren’t lying about his illness...
DevonDeathTrip 2,366 Posted November 17, 2017 Wikipedia's list of notable people from Corleone (of whom Riina was one) is made up entirely of gangsters! There were 153 murders in Corleone between 1945 and 1949, quite impressive for a town with a population of 11000. Norman Lewis, in his seminal book about the Mafia, The Honoured Society, wrote very eloquently about two extended families from the town who managed to almost completely exterminate each other in a dispute over the ownership of a tiny grove of olive trees. Spade_Cooley 9,639 Posted November 17, 2017 Travelled past Corleone a few times, never felt the need to stop there. Sicilian Wikipedia informs me that Saint Leoluca was also from the town, but that might be the last divinity from there in the past 1,200 years.

charon 4,943 Posted September 9, 2018 Gary is no More, bloke whacked in a drive by in Airdrie on Thursday night. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-45441548 Interesting part not mentioned in the story is his links to the Lyon family, alleged non payment for 4 kilos of coke, and that he'd gone into business with a gun nut in January. The gun nut I'm hearing is one Gary Convery, an ex golf shop pro turned hard man. Convery got off lightly when he got into an argument in a pub, put a bullet into the wall then aimed at his opponents face. Gun jammed, so he got a beating and a few years inside. Strongly linked to an attempt on the life of Loyalist Mad Dog Adair a year or two back, if this fued kicks off he'd be at the top of my lists.

DevonDeathTrip 2,366 Posted October 21, 2018 Giuseppe Morabito, 84, the former head of the Calabrian equivalent of the Mafia, the 'Ndrangheta, is pleading ill health (Italian link) in a probably doomed bid to get of jail, where he has been incarcerated since 2004. Incidentally, Morabito hails from Africo, widely believed to be the poorest town in Italy.

Sir Creep 7,072 Posted November 28, 2018 In an absolute STUNNING development, one time Sinaloa cartel henchman turned turncoat witness for the U.S. prosecutors in the trial of Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, Miguel Angel Martinez, claims El Chapo tried (and is trying) to have him killed! I have no doubt these attempts will succeed. Perhaps some easy DDP pickins, as well as unnatural death points. SC
