No official confirmation yet but social media posts suggest Dean Shek (wiki) has died, aged just 71.

A famed Hong Kong film producer and director, but perhaps better known to Western audiences for his acting e.g. co-starring in Drunken Master with Jackie Chan.

Spanish playwright and Franco critic Alfonso Sastre, a DDP pick, died two weeks ago, but no english language obit yet. I wouldn't rule it out, though, maybe from that socialist one.

https://www.publico.pt/2021/09/18/culturaipsilon/noticia/morreu-escritor-dramaturgo-argumentista-espanhol-alfonso-sastre-1977914

It's weird. For once, this obit of Mario Camus, that also mentions the death of Alfonso Sastre, doesn't exist for uk.news.yahoo:

https://au.news.yahoo.com/spanish-film-director-mario-camus-135829645.html

That said, there are other uk.news.yahoo obits for Mario Camus, but these DON'T mention the death of Alfonso Sastre.

I mgith be missing something here though, but it seems, this one is a very, very close miss.

95 seems very inflated, but since Pakistani outlets report it we'll have a dumb moment and believe it.

Well, he did look like a 95-year old in that last video of him posted on his instagram page a couple of hours before he died:

But yeah, judging on how he looked in that video in my previous post, I'd say that he was atleast 25 years younger than they've reported him to have been.

Legendary Mexican actor Enrique Rocha, one of the great villains of soap operas, died on Sunday at the age of 81.

Still some notable living actors and actresses alive from the golden age of Mexican cinema, oldest ones are probably Amalia Aguilar (97) and Ignacio Lopez Tarso (96), youngest I could find is Lorena Velazquez (83)

In the middle are Alma Rosa Aguirre (92), Rosa Carmina (91), Elsa Aguirre (90), Silvia Pinal (89), Maria Victoria (88) and Irma Dorantes (86).

Silvia Pinal and Amalia Aguilar seem like the next ones to go. Pinal was hospitalised a month or two ago for heart-related problems and looks like she has gained a lot of weight after her acting career. Aguilar is either in bed or in a wheelchair in most photos including those from her 95th.

Elsa Aguirre still looked great a couple of years ago, Maria Victoria is apparently in good health as is Lorena Velazquez.

Ignacio Lopez Tarso and Irma Dorantes have both had cancer(s) during the last 10 years but look great for their ages in new pictures.

Amalia Aguilar dead at the age of 97 according to this article.

The oldest notable living actor/actress of the Mexican Golden Age now seems to be Ignacio López Tarso who survived colon cancer at 91, will be 97 in january.

Norwegian actor Vegar Hoel has died aged 48 (Norwegian paywall link). Far better known in his homeland, but he did have some international fame as the lead actor in Dead Snow and its sequels. They were a bunch of cult B-movie horror films about zombie Nazis attacking some couples on a romantic getaway. The sequel involves Hoel's character raising a zombie Soviet Russian army to take on the dead Nazi stormtroopers, while he tries to bring his girlfriend (she died) back to life. It's the sort of kitchen sink drama stuff we've been missing in modern cinema, really.

Saw a short interview of film director Aku Louhimies today...

Looked very odd and thin IMO. He had cancer around ten years ago, I wonder if it's now back.

If your gran ever went on a summer holiday to Spain and came back with a straw hat, a stuffed donkey, and singing some really cheesey but scarily catchy number, and knew all the dance moves that went with it, then chances are she'd been listening to Georgie Dann. He finally boogied off the stage on 3rd November, but not without leaving us with some absolute classics, such as Una Paloma Blanca

Kumbo

Medallion makers everywhere are in mourning.

Here is a list of surviving People's Artists of the USSR. Remarkably, they all they all tend to receive an obituary in their home country (and usually one in Russia too). Many of these, particularly the Russians, are still popular and prominent even today. After the fall of the Soviet Union they remained well connected and some went into politics themselves. You'll often see them at photoshoots with Vladimir Putin or waving Russian flags at events in support of the annexation of Crimea.

Lanovoy has died this January. But I Couldn't be arsed to announcE it

"Devastated does not even begin to describe how we feel."

Maybe try and come up with something that's less of a cliché then.  Let me suggest a few alternatives:

Heartbroken, grief-stricken, inconsolable, desolate, forlorn, sorrowful, distraught .....

Plenty more where those came from.

We can assume at least one of your suggestions were at the head of David’s list and only after that/them did he include ‘devastated’.
