The Muppets (and other puppets)

Recommended Posts

Because "voice actors" seems a weird place to put these guys, plus most of the original Henson Workshop mob will be entering their 80s now so they'll be thinking about dropping dead any time soon. You can probably talk about Sesame Street types in here as well, if you must.

With Nelson's passing, only Dave Goelz (66) and Frank Oz (68) are still alive out of the five primary muppeteers on the original Muppet Show from the 1970s. All of the secondary performers of any note are still alive AFAIK except for Eren Ozker (who died in 1993), but I can't think of any who are older than Oz. I don't know about the puppet-builders or any of the other backstage folks - some of them could be getting up there, but if they carked it tomorrow how many people would really know their names?

Nice to see that Sid and Marty Krofft (Banana Splits, HR Pufnstuf, various other druggy kids stuff) are still with us at 83 and 75 respectively.

Marty Krofft said, "No drugs involved. You can't do drugs when you're making shows. Maybe after, but not during. We're bizarre, that's all."

Got me thinking about all that weird 50s/60s foreign dubbed stuff like the Flashing Blade and the Singing Ringing Tree. Not relevant to the DL, of course. Just reminiscing, as old people tend to do.

All I remember of the Flashing Blade was the re-dubbed versions on a kids programme in the late-80s.

Sure it wasn't the late 70's? Probably a repeat...

It was a spoof version. The dialogue was all about anaglypta wallpaper or something...

Apparently the accuser has recanted...

It's all the rage these days, ducky!

But apparently a lawsuit has been filed and the man has quit after a second man came forward with accusations.

Well, this is a big one!

Jim's ex-wife Jane Hanson, as may be noted one of the founding members of the Muppet troupe, died at 78 years. The creator of characters like Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.

This started it all.

Vlasta Daribor at 94.

Had her hand up either Pinky or Perky, can never tell them apart.

Invented them with her hubby and made a mint. Which would've been better if they'd did Larry the Lamb.

Report of the death of puppeteer Andy Cunningham, famous for some creation called Bodger and Badger. http://www.beyondthejoke.co.uk/content/4040/news-entertainer-andy-cunningham-dies

IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0192233/

Apparently he was also in Star Wars - Return Of The Jedi and for some reason that has a separate IMDB entry: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1027625/

Aww damn. I loved Bodger and Badger as a kid. ("Everybody knows Badger loves mashed potato!") Mum hated it though.

Mind you, now I can't stuff like Mr Tumble. Circle of life.
