Myung Rye-hun was likely dead before the 2002 documentary The Game of Their Lives was shot. The fate of the whole squad is unknown, excpect from Pak Seung-zin who died in 2011 and Pak Doo-ik who is still alive and sort of venerated in North Korea. Also Italian populist leader Matteo Salvini met him during a recent trip in North Korea.

I’m italian and here it’a night but it’s already a tragedy, he was a real hero for us. We’re all shocked, no one expected it.

My parents had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago, besides being a champion he was also a good person, kind  to everyone.

Think you are thinking of the Golden Boot which in 1986 was won by Gary Lineker. As deaths go in threes maybe he'll be next?

Sorry, now I've seen what you meant. To me the golden ball is the "ballon d'Or", it has nothing to do with the golden boot. The golden ball you are talking about is the "FIFA world cup golden ball", nice stat.

I appreciate I am sounding like a broken record when it comes to the longevity of German footballers but it's pretty remarkable if only one of the West German squad of 1974 has died so far.

These were definitely the only survivors of the Italy game c. 2006. Since then, of course, who knows? Anyone who played versus Italy that wasn't at the reunion is dead.
