Obit chances? Probably 75%. Unpicked in the DDP surprisingly, and yet the centenarian teams have picked loads of obscure names who will never obit.

One of the great "how the fuck are they still alive?" names of the last decade. Would have assumed picked by someone tbh! And I can see why - dropped by One Century is Enough Madam after 3 consecutive years!

Just checked, only four 1917 picks in the DDP this year:

Sinclair Hood (already dead, still think he'll obit later)
Marsha Hunt (dead cert obit)
Francis Jackson (almost dead cert obit)
Art Rupe (probably obit)

Kenneth Mayhew and Song Ping are unfortunate omissions. Both strong chances of an obit. Possibly Whang-od too (she has received BBC and Yahoo UK coverage before).

Not the most interesting list of people, granted, but worth posting. 90% of the people on Who's Who seem to get QOs between the Telegraph, the Guardian and the Times, even when there's next to zero info available online about them before their death.

German sociologist, philosopher and university professor Hans Albert, one of the strong critics of the continental hermeneutic tradition (Martin Heidegger and Hans-Georg Gadamer), has joined the Club today.:birthday:

https://www.forschung-und-lehre.de/zeitfragen/hans-albert-feiert-100-geburtstag-3465/

He is a critical rationalist. His works (I read the "Analysis and critics of the religion") do uncover "undiscovered premises as well as new and often fatal consequences" in several worldviews or topics.

I would give a lot to know what he thinks about Deathlist.

Interesting how they (He and his brother Curtis who died in 2019 at age 102) founded the Friendly's ice cream chain in 1935 during the great depression.

He is dead 86 years after founding his chain. Now that's pretty ancient.

Here's an interesting centenarian, but there isn't a lot about him in the english wikipedia.

https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paavo_V._Suominen

Founded "Huurre" in 1946. It became the largest producer of cold storages in the 80s. Suominen "retired" in 1986 and soon after, because of an economic depression the company was sold to an English bank. He's a millionaire freemason known for sometimes giving donations to schools.

Suominen is known in Finland but probably only few know his name outside of the country.

A few months ago celebrated his 100th birthday. He has once told a newspaper that he wouldn't be alive without a pacemaker he got at age 85 in America.

https://twitter.com/IlmariSjoblom/status/1227683656174645248

Here's a new picture of him. I wonder how long he'll live, his wife is in a nursing home but apparently he still lives in his home. He's a living relic.

101 two days ago. No new pictures anywhere.

Mina Hehn, German senior home resident, has "celebrated" her 108th birthday today:

https://www.svz.de/deutschland-welt/kultur/108-geburtstag-oma-mina-muss-auf-party-verzichten-id31266207.html

Due to the Corona-restrictions, she was not allowed to invite more than one guest - her octogenarian-daughter got the ticket. Positively thinking, she plans for her 109th birthday next year.

Whether she is afraid of dying? "A bit, yes. It's something uncertain. But let's wait and see, I'll tell you then."

Just in case one of my 99ers will not turn 100: Is she a valid sub for the Centenarian Dead Pool?

S. Prestley Blake... I note from his obituaries that there were 4 siblings:

Hollis (1918–1920),
Curtis (1917–2019),
Stewart (1914–2021),
and a sister Betsy (married surname Melvin, born 1922 so turning 99 this year) <--- she's a noted author and photographer. A potential for supercentenarian age with those genes?

Edit: Le Figaro Obit

Another January 1920 born dead. Obviously only Western ones, Trevor Dannatt and him in quick succession. I expect Gottfried Bohm to be the next one. Out of them only David Musuguri, Charles Njonjo, Henry Hu will be left. Stefan Zywotko survived COVID in December, but that weakened him a lot. Theodore Geballe seems just a random guy.

Here's a list of them, just to see how many will be dead in a year:

26)Osman Nuhu Sharubutu (1919). Ghana.

How many of them will be dead in a year? 4 or 5?

Sharubutu in the news again. Ghana has been considering the legalisation of homosexual relations between consenting adults.

Unsurprisingly he's been pressuring the Ghanaian Government to uphold the criminal code which forbids it.

Seems to be pretty active still for someone who is (allegedly) 102 in 2 months.

Conducting sermons with his surgical face mask on. My sister has COVID at the moment. I'll go ask if she fancies a wee trip to Ghana for "essential travel purposes". :D
