That is just so ridiculous.  Every fact has to start as "original research".  When does it become acceptable?  After it's been repeated multiple times with multiple opportunities for errors or garbling?

It has to be in  a source Wiki editors consider credible. A writer pal had some basic biography errors in their page for years thanks to Sun journalism errors and wasnt allowed to correct them himself as it constituted "original research".

They also deleted an entire section that was used by people in the actual business to note stats as "Wikipedia should not be here just to help the public".

Urgh.

Update on Song Ping: in perfect health, able to walk unaided and spends most time reading in his courtyard. Groannn.....

Latest photo:

宋平“露面”

He is a lot fatter than usual and couln't walk much. Also his intervention was very short and limited to "it's fine" or few other platitudes. Next year or 2022 will see a big wipeout of that political class, probably giving even more power to Xi JInping.

Quite the fascinating name plucked from Wikipedia, Slovenian inventor Peter Florjancic, dead at 101:

Yes, he was an inventor, but also a participant for Yugoslavia at the 1936 Olympics (!). During the Second World War he also faked his death.

Today, American painter Wayne Thiebaud celebrates his 100th birthday. :birthday:

What advice do you have for people who’d like a long and happy life?

I would just tell them to stay healthy, have a nice life, read poetry, listen to good music, and get exercise—which I’m going to do as we speak. I’m heading to the tennis court at the moment.

Teddy Dixon, who helped liberate the Dachau concentration camp in 1945, has died. He was 100. Dixon was considered a war hero in Belfast, where he lived most of his life. He also helped recover stolen art. Similar acts were the inspiration for the George Clooney film Monuments Men, the premiere of which he attended in Belfast.

Despite many deaths, the number of living centenarians has increased this year. Some of the latest additions may have good staying power too. Chao is one of them, being mentally sharp as a razor at his age and looking about ten years younger.

One from my longlist of centenarians:

Robert E. Thacker (wiki), American test pilot and aeromodeling designer, who was a decorated veteran of WWII, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, died November 25th aged 102.

I drew up a list of the oldest famous people in January. Not one of the 8 oldest have died. Surely one or 2 of them must go soon. The nearest to die is Roberta McCain who was 9th on the list. They can't live forever !
