Paul Ignatius turns 103 today. He was Secretary of the Navy toward the end of Lyndon Johnson's presidency. Notably, he was in charge when America lost the USS Pueblo to North Korea.

He's probably the highest ranking pre-Kissinger American government officer still alive.

She has has been called 'the last Rosie the Riveter'. I've heard this thrown around about others before. Does anyone know if she was indeed the last living?

I realize it is a bit subjective, but at least in regards to those that were given any semblance of publicity.

Thanga Darlong hospitalised and improving.

103-year old wants to die at home, they forcibly hospitalise him possibly only to make him die far from home. Indian mindset.

Chinese politician, former head of the "Cadre Review Bureau", delegate at multiple National Congresses and deputy He Zai (zh wiki) apparently very close to Xi Jinping (for which he received the Reform Pioneer Medal from the central committee in 2018), prematurely dead at 104. He'd been undergoing "ministerial-level treatment" (正部級待遇) since 2015.

Edit:

Also,

Wu Bo, Chinese "revolutionary cadre" and once wife of Marshal Ye Jianying who overthrew Madame Mao and the Gang of Four prematurely dead at 106.

Is there a power outage at the Beijing 301 Hospital?

I've heard that there are more but how many, I only know of a few, including Veora Bliss-Baldwin, who turns 99 this year https://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/2023/nov/08/98-year-old-rosie-the-riveter-from-american-fork-honored-for-her-service-in-wwii/

There is also a group of Rosie's who were honored in March of this year https://www.wemu.org/wemu-news/2023-03-30/rosie-the-riveters-treated-like-royalty-with-honor-flight-to-washington-d-c

Hopefully they can make it to 100 or more, it's sad that the Greatest Generation is dying too fast

Mullahan Nurislamov dead at 108. Oldest Soviet Red Army veterans as far as I know are now Rashid Karimov of Tajikistan (111), Valentin Roslyakov of Russia and Leonid Skvortsov of Belarus (both 107)

Rashid Karimov was the oldest known person in Tajikistan and the oldest living veteran of the Second World War, he was born in the village of Shokhambari, Gissar district and died of a stroke on November 15, 2023 in the same place
Now the oldest person in Tajikistan is Fotima Salimova born on 20 Jan 1913 and Andre Ludwig (FRA) is the oldest living veteran of the second world war, he was born on 6 June 1912 and is also the oldest man in France, born on La Ferte-sous-Jouarre, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France and lives in Longue-Jumelles, Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire
However, the only source I have is this, and if anyone finds another it would be interesting:

New video of french pianist Colette Maze at 108. Can still walk outside unaided, still plays piano, talks really elaborately and is really sharp. Absolutely amazing. I think she can see 110. Found another video on YouTube of her speaking english in addition to french. At that age…

Nope.

Colette Maze (wiki) reportedly dead at 109.

Some obscure Chinese centenarians I found:

Hou Beiren 侯北人 (1917-) Chinese classical painter/minor ROC politician still making public appearances semi-frequently.

Feng Hongzhi 冯洪志 (1917-) Second-born son of warlord Feng Yuxiang and lifelong friend of Chiang Ching-kuo. According to Sohu and other Chinese tabloids, he is an internationally renowned nuclear physicist worth hundreds of billions of dollars. In reality, he was moved to a Shanghai nursing home in 2010 and almost certainly died off-radar.

Tu Longchen 涂龙琛 (1918-) Messenger/child soldier in the Chinese Civil War. Grew up in the same town as Tu Tongjin

Zhang Rouwu 张柔武 (1919-) Former music teacher at Nantong University whose grandfather was philanthropist Zhang Jian. Still involved in charity work.

Li Guowei 李国维 (1920-) Shanghai OB-GYN who is still working at 103

Zhu Nansun 朱南孙 (1921-2023) Another prominent Shanghai OB-GYN

Bi Xingyu 毕醒愚 (1921-) Veteran, local official, and poet. Appears to be permanently hospitalized.

Wu Qinfa 吴钦发 (1922-) Veteran of the Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War who is so committed to the "soldier lifestyle" that he refuses to have a toilet installed in his house

Ji Yin 季音 (1923-) Probably the last living reporter who covered the founding of the People's Republic of China. Hospitalized as of February 2024.

Good luck with an obit. Seems the kind of personality who just gets blatantly ignored.
