Joey Russ 7,252 Posted July 28, 2018 I just did a "if you had to pick 20 names today" type thing, and I definitely don't feel satisfied with how the team looks. I'm just hoping better names will show up in the next 5 months and the good names that do fit my team don't die during that time (not going to happen lol)... gcreptile 11,018 Posted July 28, 2018 I wouldn't mind starting now, as I feel my prospective team is actually pretty good. However, it's made easy to look good because I have 9 members of my current main team on it, of whom I still expect great things. But I have three jokers ready as well. And a B-Team line-up with a couple of main team prospects. Prince Philipp has been in there for a week now.
Joey Russ 7,252 Posted July 28, 2018 Two people on my current team (both very obvious names) I’ve excluded as I don’t expect them to make 2019, but they’d almost certainly make my lineup if they do. Haven’t bothered with making a prospective B Team yet, but I do plan on making it a lot more interesting (and hopefully at least one hit on it next year) than last time... Death Impends 8,023 Posted July 28, 2018 Still have not put much thought at all yet and probably won't for another few months. Probably one of the biggest decisions for me next year is whether I can finally bring myself to pick Bush Sr on TJS, should he still be alive. I feel obligated to get a TJS hit with a US President at least once. If he dies this year, he'd still be a B-Team hit for me... but that wouldn't quite feel the same. I also doubt I'll run a B-Team again since I don't want to do one without particularly interesting names and I don't see many right now on the same level as Naomi Parker Fraley or Jalal Mansur Nuriddin. Joey Russ 7,252 Posted September 14, 2018 Am going through my 2017 longlist and transferring a lot of the names into my 2018 longlist right now (really should’ve done this earlier). While I’m doing that, I realized and was saddened to see some names that I could’ve used for 2018 but didn’t die and get a QO, like ZX Spectrum designer Rick Dickinson... As for my current provisional 20, I think it looks better at the moment. There’s still some names on it that I’m hoping to replace later this year, but I don’t think it’d have a bad performance if the DDP started tomorrow. I’ve noticed that the overall ages of this group is slightly older than my actual two DDP teams as well, so that’s going to be interesting. Now watch all the great names on it die before January... Sir Creep 7,070 Posted September 14, 2018 I'm amazed anyone is thinking about DDP 2019 prior to Thanksgiving (U.S.). 4 weeks seems plenty of time to catch up and weed out a list of 20. Methinks. This doesn't mean I don't make notations of prospects throughout the year....but to compile a list? Ain't-a-gonna happen. SC

Then the 'research' is all on my phone. I can then scroll through them and update their present medical situations come December. Obviously Cup play kept me active 1/2 a year but those people are old hat Gonna have to see any new rules too and how a team would be best put together. (My point being I won't put any pen to paper prior to Dec, so no 'list' per se).

I've mentioned it before but essentially my lists boil down to this: Sometime in Feb-Nov: "Oh, apparently random person has cancer (mentioned on here or somewhere else I read), I'll just note their name on this word doc before i forget..." Me in late December: "Who the fuck is this person again? And where did these 300 fucking names come from?" 3

Spade_Cooley 9,574 Posted September 15, 2018 Really looking forward to starting research again as of next year. Funny how I can never remember a single person's birthday yet I'm quite happy keeping a list of 200 cancer-suffering college handegg coaches.

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted July 2, 2019 What do you do when you’re celeb’s JustGiving page is frozen a few month’s back without explanation? What do you do when you can fine no update whatsoever using Google or otherwise? What do you do when you’re not certain if your celeb is dead or alive? Well you write his step-daughter, of course! SC “Hollie: I'm a fan of your father's and have been having a difficult time getting any update since February. I do hope he has received the treatment he was seeking. I was only concerned because the JustGiving page was closed mid Feb with no update, and none of his daughters have posted anything. So -- thanks in advance for anything you can share about Mr. Steve McDonald.” “Hi! Thanks for the message. Steve has been one of the lucky ones and has had a miraculous (like actually) recovery. He was put into a trial in Christchurch which has gone very well. He will stay on it till the end of year at least but the immune therapy has eradicated all of his tumors & he’s back to his normal self for now. So fingers crossed but it’s looking good at this point. Appreciate you care and thoughts.”
Joey Russ 7,252 Posted August 31, 2019 Ngl, I actually feel more pumped about next year’s DDP than I ever had before. I think 2020 is really going to be a strong year, and there will be plenty of great competitors with that too. Of course I’m prepping for next year a little, but next year definitely feels like one for the books.
Handrejka 1,905 Posted September 1, 2019 Well pointless Celebrities has started again so my research extends to 'hmm how is Melvyn Hayes looking?' Edit - Actually he's not looking too bad.
Death Impends 8,023 Posted May 28, 2020 This morning, my phone had a popup notification that there was going to be a new House Hunters episode tonight. I can only assume the AI leapt to conclusions off of my Suzanne Whang searches last year because I have never watched an episode. Next thing you know it'll assume I'm a big Jeopardy! fan. Oh wait, I am... 1

For lack of a better place to put it, this week Talking Pictures showed an interview with Melvyn Hayes filmed in October 2021 (it might be on their new online archive too) - and he frankly looks and sounds great for his age. Just turned 87.
Bibliogryphon 9,612 Posted August 1, 2022 I know this is my fault but my memory stick with all my spreadsheets on has stopped working I can no longer access my long list of almost 1000 names and all my entries that are live. I have had to reconstruct the SHBD Masterlist from the pages here Anyone know how to repair memory sticks? (I have tried it in another computer)
gcreptile 11,018 Posted August 1, 2022 ^^ Oh, I think that will be difficult... maybe a specialist can have a look at it? Costs money though. Sometimes, some data can still be extracted, but that's also expensive. Otherwise, you might get lucky, try different USB ports, different computers, etc.... just make sure you don't re-format it.
