Canadian Paul 97 Posted November 21, 2007 Sir Nicholas Winton, 98, war hero and Nobel Prize nominee, hospitalised with heart problems during a visit to Prague. Winton improving, but no update since late October. By the way, apologies for the post-whoring but, as you may have guessed, I'm updating the big list at the moment. TAFKAG 70 Posted September 4, 2009 In London today, centenarian Nicholas Winton is due to meet some of the people he helped avoid concentration camps 70 years ago.
CaptainChorizo 1,983 Posted May 19, 2014 Just saw a clip of Nicholas Winton(b. 1909) from the news show 60 Minutes. Looks like he could make it to a supercentenarian age range.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted October 28, 2014 105 year old Sir Nicholas Winton is getting some column inches today on the back of being honoured in the Czech Republic for his work saving Jewish lives in the war. Still fairly chipper and alert for one so old, but never-the-less, in our sights, eh?

Agreed, but one I'd find difficult to include on mine for the same reason some folk on here used to have with Harry Patch.
Sean 6,330 Posted October 28, 2014 I think he should go on Death List 2015.He looks very well for his age but come the end of next year he will be 106 1/2 and at that age deteriation can occur very quickly such as with Chapman Pincher and Erich Priebke.I think he is too big a figure to miss. I'm not British enough to get the fine point, but I do know who Sir Nicholas is without consulting Wikipedia. From the remark about Harry Patch I take it that your point is: last of the war heroes, or summat. I picked Miep Gies for DDP 2010 without hesitation. She kindly obliged, as the only one in that team, of which 11 members still live. regards, Hein

TomTomTelekom 3,728 Posted January 29, 2015 Interesting Video about an interesting person. Sir Nicholas Winton saved 669 Jewish prisoners from certain death in a concentration camp. Many of those rescued were at that time even more children and adolescents. For decades Winton lived a life of discretion and confidentiality, up to this special day he was invited and surprised from BBC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_nFuJAF5F0 This man has saved nearly 700 people from the worst fate of the earth. This in itself is impressive enough. But almost touching the restrained and modest species, which he has retained.

Sean 6,330 Posted January 30, 2015 Maryport certainly appeared to be displaying black humour in the aforementioned post. Black humour can always be easily misconstrued on the internet as there is no body language to emphasise its comedic nature. It was in bad taste but very funny I have to confess.I don`t think a site such as this is your bag without a dark sense of humour.I also reckon Nicholas should be put on next years list if he is still breathing come 2016.Why he wasn`t included this year baffles me quite frankly. The man is well known in Britain and certainly meets the fame and obit criteria. Cheers for your support and appreciation, I've spoken to the DL Admin crew about a live Skype feed to convey body language, the discussion was going well until they saw a picture of me and the rest of my inbred west Cumbrian family and told me such images were unacceptable on a family-friendly site. Re Winton, hell yeah, I think he was on this year's list but was spirited away and saved at the last minute by some well-meaning philanthropist.
