Can Graham Brady still remain chair of the 1922 Commitee given he'll now be in the HoL or does it have to be an MP ?

He can’t. The Tories are electing a new one and it’s expected to be either Bob Blackman or Geoffrey Clifton - Brown.

Met Geoffrey Clifton-Brown once during the 1992 election when he was first standing in Tewkesbury

We  were having Friday lunchtime drinks in a pub close to where I worked which fell into his constituency but we all lived in the neighboring one. He urged us to vote for the then Conservative candidate in Cheltenham who lost to the Lib Dems.

Tory Twitter account went down today and the Lib Dems jumped on it expertly:

Yes, Labour didn’t do that well out in Outer London and particularly Croydon with long term local issues for Labour. Also a relatively low Reform vote -  lower than UKIP in 2015 in his seat.

Stride almost went. Barclay has one of the bigger majorities of all those in shadow cabinet.

That seat was chalked off early in the campaign by Labour as unfriendly and they channelled resources into other seats.

I thought he was a goner as the other two Croydon constituencies were Labour, and remained so.

Not 100% sure they fully wrote it off. . Ellie Reeves was in Croydon South on Election Day with a lot of people from her Lewisham local party. If the seat has been written off like some were she would have gone elsewhere (Even out of London - Labour were sending activists from London as Far as Norfolk and Hampshire.)

They did put some campaign in on the last week when it was clear other nearby targets were done deals but the area covered by Croydon South has no labour representation at all and a lot of voters of the kind who find Kier Starmer too much of a radical socialist. It was always a long shot and Labour did well to come relatively close but there's a ceiling for them there.

Reform didn’t do that well there either. If they did it could have been gained by Labour who gained sevreal seats on less than the 35.3% there got there. (Which was a lower share than they got there in 2017).

Protesting too much. The Tories were too too shit to risk running government again but you've got to keep up appearances and that.

And another one!

Meanwhile, in answer to those statements:

Rory - no, he isn't.

Annabel - it isn't - they voted for this.

Tim - what the actual fuck? Are you The Doctor in this bizarre analogy?

Sherelle - well you'd know, the Tories have been responsible for every one so far.

This is staggering. Up there with Rivers of Blood in terms of the language and hatred. Good on Dale for calling it out, this battle for the soul of the Tory Party is truly where the existential crisis comes from now. If the One Nation moderates lose, then the party is lost.
