I thought it was about time the Cinematographer Douglas Slocombe had his own thread. He turns 103 next February is virtually blind and looks very frail indeed. He was also a photojournalist and covered the beginning of WW2 before working on many films such as the First three Indiana Jones films ,Julia ,The Italian job ,The Great Gatsby and Jesus Christ Superstar amongst many others. He won 3 BAFTAS and was nominated for 3 Oscars. Given the high profile of his movies and his acclaim from BAFTA I would be astounded if his eventual demise was not covered by all the major news sites/Papers in Britain .Gil Taylor another famous cinematographer received a good amount of attention when he died and I think Slocombe would be the same .I think he is definitely a must have for next years list if he makes it that far.

However, his work on Dead of Night, Kind Hearts and Coronets and The Titfield Thunderbolt earlier in his career showed great style in his eye for the aesthetic shot. I second the recommendation for Kind Hearts And Coronets, it's a very dark comedy, funny and bleak in places. Great film.

Possibly as he still has his marbles they might say he is capable of something but I can`t think of any jobs around for blind people in wheelchair`s unless it is filling a diversity quota at the BBC or something.Shame their PC quotas didn`t exist in the 70`s.If they had employed more blind people in wheelchairs there would have been a lot less peadophilia going on.

Huh... I thought he might have died after seeing this quiet little thread was updated. Hit #3 for me. Didn't do much research on the bloke. Just knew he was old. Might actually research him now.
