Tuber Mirum 125 Posted January 5, 2006 Korchnoi is quite mad...however wouldn't rate him as a likely death . I certainly wouldn't pick Timman (unless you have insider info...aids ? ) ....I actually saw him (Brighton I think) in early 80s at the British Champs (we were both spectating ) . He had 2 groupies with him (1 on each arm) ...and clearly was enjoying a full and active life in those days . Benko is knocking on a bit tho isn't he ? Might be worth keeping an eye on him... Mr Grobler, Was 1. g4 named after you? Oh, and how's your health?
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted January 5, 2006 Korchnoi is quite mad...however wouldn't rate him as a likely death . Mad, well, perhaps. In any case Korchnoi is a chess maniac. Several years ago my home town organised simuls against six or so grandmasters, one of them Korchnoi. He finished more than an hour after the other simuls were done, with a score of 40 out of 40. He's 74 and still active, so I don't expect him to cark it anytime soon, but he won't last forever, will he? I certainly wouldn't pick Timman (unless you have insider info...aids ? ) ....I actually saw him (Brighton I think) in early 80s at the British Champs (we were both spectating ) . He had 2 groupies with him (1 on each arm) ...and clearly was enjoying a full and active life in those days . Again I don't expect Timman to die in the near future, but he seems to be aging rapidly. Also his life style isn't particularly healthy. Benko is knocking on a bit tho isn't he ? Might be worth keeping an eye on him... He's 77 and no longer active in the game. regards, Hein
grobler 35 Posted January 5, 2006 Was 1. g4 named after you? Oh, and how's your health? No it wasn't...though I do play it often on the internet... my health is not good...lots of medication to control blood pressure and high cholestrol Gave up running in 2000 after nearly suffering brain aneurism.... and I've got a touch of a sore throat.... grobler 35 Posted January 5, 2006 changing tack...is there a thread to discuss Shane McGowan ? If he REALLY is going into Celebrity BB in 36 mins time... 1. I wanna watch it cos he will be brill... 2.How will he survive not drinking?...Shurely there's some possibilities here in the coming days (as long as we keep voting for him ! )
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 5, 2006 McGowan is one of my picks in Handrejka's PoolofDeath, I hope he's in celeb BB, he'd be worth watching. Of course the show would need subtitles otherwise nobody will have a clue what he's saying.
grobler 35 Posted January 5, 2006 I've got him in "deadpoolisfullofcrap" one .......lots of points if he drops....

DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted January 6, 2006 Here is my team - named The Living End Henry Allingham Abu Musab al-Zarqawi Ronnie Biggs Ross Davidson Nick Du Toit (joker) Michael Foot Gerald Ford Zsa Zsa Gabor Stephen Hawking Saddam Hussein Lady Bird Johnson Jean-Marie Le Pen Jerry Lee Lewis Jim Molyneaux Prince Philip Ferenc Puskas Yves St Laurent Jeremy Thorpe King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV Chad Varah I can't believe I'm the only one who picked Nick Du Toit, he's wasting away and been denied any healthcare. I was going to pick Ellen McArthur just out of spite, but went for Zsa Zsa Gabor at the last minute. I will be most annoyed if Miss MacArthur choses this year to fall out of a boat in the Stormy South Seas
Octopus of Odstock 2,197 Posted January 6, 2006 I'm getting a horrible sinking feeling that having missed Sharon & Rawls AND declining to pick Rees, that my 17th place last year might return to mid-table obscurity this year - we shall see. What a DDP day though - 5 in a day - that's a record, surely? (Squire, Skate, Rawls, Rees & Miura (to come))
football_fan 42 Posted January 6, 2006 Lou Rawls was picked by a total of 34 teams, of which 17 of them, including deathlist.net, had him as their joker.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 6, 2006 One hit for me, not the joker though. I'm sure Mr. Pinter will oblige the honour that I and a few others have given him soon enough though...
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 6, 2006 Lou Rawls was my DDP joker, An excellent start, now if only some of my oldies will oblige as well.
weatherman90 7 Posted January 6, 2006 I was planning on putting Lou as my joker, but forgot to change it since it automatically selects the first one. I ended up with Tammy Faye as my joker, hopefully the lung cancer will take care of her just like it did with Mr. Rawls.
Cup of Tea 3 Posted January 8, 2006 It looks like im gonna have a completely unsuccessfull first attempt at the DDP. which couldnt be more annoying.

Tempus Fugit 214 Posted January 14, 2006 The DDP now has a clear leader with the death of Shelley Winters, "Faster,Pussycat,Kill,Kill,Kill".
Banshees Scream 110 Posted January 14, 2006 The DDP now has a clear leader with the death of Shelley Winters, "Faster,Pussycat,Kill,Kill,Kill". Tempus don't say Cat or Kat in any shape or form. It brings me down sometimes because not only did the DL miss Shelly Winters but I miss my friend Kat dearly. It's all my fault I think.
themaninblack 2,112 Posted January 14, 2006 The DDP now has a clear leader with the death of Shelley Winters, "Faster,Pussycat,Kill,Kill,Kill". She was one of mine as well. Along with Lou Rawls. This could be a good year...
