Thatcher 2,395 Posted September 16, 2017 Barring an obituary from The Daily Express to use him as a role model for how all muslims ought to live their lives, or perhaps one from The Guardian I'm not certain he'll get one. Don't think his story has been followed at all in the UK media.

Joey Russ 7,220 Posted September 17, 2017 Hm. Thinking an obit could be very plausible for Qureshi. He got an obit from The Washington Post, so he could very much get an obit from the UK. Washington Post is a qualifying obit for Windy City, no? Someone has him there. Let me check... EDIT: Nah, it wasn't. But I'm expecting the NYT to eliminate the obit worry in that dead pool... msc 18,438 Posted September 19, 2017 Still no QO for Qureshi, but he did get one for the Alt Obits pool. This puts (our?) Cancerous Hatred 90 points ahead of the unstoppable G. Tierney with 3 and a bit months left. Also, it tells me I heavily overestimated the fame criteria for the game!
Death Impends 7,963 Posted September 19, 2017 Jiroemon's ability to sniff out terminal cases in other languages might not be too much help for DDP purposes, but is a godsend for a pool where all that's needed for a QO is any coverage in a reputable news source, regardless of language. (not in ref to Qureshi, mind, but quite a few of his other hits)

I think gcreptile knew about Mohren since he played him in the Hare's Dead Pool. But there's a couple on there that I'm like how do I even know their ill? Death Impends 7,963 Posted September 19, 2017 gcreptile may have had a built-in advantage as to why he knew about Mohren...
drol 11,932 Posted September 19, 2017 Well, regarding AODeadpool, an IbTimes obituary in March was not enough to give me points for Dennis Stamp. I think that was just unfair.

msc 18,438 Posted October 18, 2017 No word on her health, and she's not very Deathlisty, but it'd be cool to see Penelope Lively make the list one year. I swear there was a point where it seemed everyone I bumped into had had to read The Ghost of Thomas Kempe for school, and that's going over a few decades worth age differences there.

Booker Prize winning author not Deathlisty? I'd say she is. I've known of her for years, despite not having read any of her books, including the one you mention. Very recently I did read one - The House In Norham Gardens. I read it because it is set in Oxford, and I think we're all drawn to books about places we know. It was really disappointing though - nothing really happens, and apart from a fleeting visit to the Pitt Rivers Museum, there was not much sense of being in Oxford.
Gooseberry Crumble 5,337 Posted October 19, 2017 John Le Carre. 86 today! One of Britain's most successful authors John Le Carre turns 86 today and I think he's reaching an age, such is his fame, that he should at least be on the committees radar for consideration even vaguely!
