Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Recommended Posts

Elmore Leonard has suffered a stroke.

it happened a week ago, last Monday. He's doing better every day, and the family is guardedly optimistic,

according to the report.

Elmore Leonard is 87.

Sci-fi writer Frederik Pohl dead at 93.

Hmm. I read (and like) quite some of his work. Oh well, 96 is quite a good innings.

Hein

It would be a shame on the UK press if an obit was missed for any of these.

News is spreading fast that Tom Clancy has died, at least, according to a post on his publisher's twitter (and we all know that Twitter never lies).

Edit: Dead [in] October

Did he ever find Red October?

Not that I'm aware of.

I wasn't aware either of any clear and present danger to his health.

Definitely one of the biggest deaths in a while and maybe of the year depends on how the rest of the year goes. I can't think of a more famous author to die since michael crichton.

A very geographical opinion. In the UK James Herbert and Iain Banks were pretty big news.

Obviously we have no friends on the Booker prize judging panel. This morning it was being reported that the oldest contender Jim Crace was the most likely winner but they go and give it to a 28 year old girl. However in all fairness I am going to add her to my list just so she knows that it is not all book festivals and literary luncheons she has to put up with being discussed on the Deathlist.
