Lafaucheuse 4,096 Posted November 3, 2020 on a side note, is there any thread here about famous bobs ? we had a few Bobs on last years list and some that may worth an inclusion : Bob Dole, Bob Barker, Bob Newhart now, Bob Dylan, Bob Cousy, Bob Pettit, Bob Weir…

Although I've just gone back to first post on the thread back in September 2015 and he looked 'kinda ghastly' then and 5 years later he's still here so maybe he has been sporting the sunken, body riddled with cancer cheeks look for a few years? markb4 907 Posted April 15, 2021 Question for the UK folks: exactly how popular is Bob Newhart, his comedy routines, and his sitcoms in the UK? Just curious.

Personally, I had a few if his albums ( yes, albums. I'm old)which were pretty funny. Can't say I've seen any of his sitcoms, so can't really comment on that. I couldn't really comment on how popular he is. 1

His comedy albums (or at least certain sketches - Bus Driver etc) used to get a fair bit of airplay back when DJs were given a bit of independence and could do their own thing occasionally. As far as I know they went down well.. I don't ever remember seeing his sitcoms on UK TV, though I was a fan of Newhart (Hi, I'm Larry, this my brother Darryl & this is my other brother Darryl) when I saw it in the USA.

That's all I know. Back in my student days there would be the odd time you were round at someone's house and they would dig out an album or tape with those on. The driving instructor and the one about tobacco are others I remember. Haven't heard any of them in decades though.

As has been said, some of us of a certain age remember his comedy routines like 'The Driving Instructor & Bus Conductor. Personally, I always thought they were funny, his delivery was immaculate. 1
