gcreptile 11,091 Posted September 21, 2016 As someone who likes to pick eccentricely, I don't like the change. The neither-unique-nor-universal picks will suffer.
Spade_Cooley 9,638 Posted September 21, 2016 It doesn't reward "fame" per se, rather "fame of illness". Remember, Dr Granger and Joey Feek would both have earned these "fame" bonuses this year, as would Lauren Hill last year.

Agreed, and the main attraction of those sort of picks is their youth, garnering more points especially if played as joker.

Yes, but, and this might open a can of worms, I'd say if someone makes the Drop 40, they are famous for more than just being ill. Famous solely for dying people just don't get picked in the huge numbers, yet Dr Kate made the top 15 of the Drop 40 twice. The only other example is Katherine Crow and she only made the 40 when she was "dying singer in the top ten of the UK charts", not the year before when she was "inspirational cancer case". Drop 40 cases need that extra pop culture osmosis than this forum or a glance over google for cancer mums.

Including people who look at the top teams' surviving picks and add them to their own lists.

themaninblack 2,112 Posted October 4, 2016 Yes, it's getting to that time of year, isn't it? And it'll be busier than ever too, what with the large number of teams that have had significant numbers of hits in 2016 and have to come up with a virtually new squad of would-be stiffs... Victim of obitability? I erred on the side of too little obitability this year and will probably take a different approach this time. The rule change has actually pushed ZsaZsa Gabor into my "statistical" Top 20 for 2017. I expected a rule change that would prohibit another Shameless, but now it will return. However, my turbulent life recently (both positive and negative) means that I do not have the same depth of research.
gcreptile 11,091 Posted October 5, 2016 The Generation Game shows me that I have become better at picking the old, neither unique nor universally popular picks. To make it count in the DDP, I'd like to suggest another bonus: 50 bonus points if your whole team, consisting of 20 people, dies. Edit: I call it the Yahtzee bonus. All he needs to do is to get a hit for Errol Christie and Luke Halpin, and then he should find a depelch obit. I do object to this however. It can be seen as impossible to people finding 12 younger picks vs a guy with 20 older picks. Basically it used to prevent other from being able to have a chance on the title. msc 18,558 Posted October 5, 2016 I don't see the point in that. Can you honestly ever see someone score 20/20 in the DDP and not win? I can't. As for obitability, I refer to the Sir Creep rule. Apart from on people like Robert Dorr, that was a bullet dodged. Of course, it was worse for Dorr himself, I guess... It's funny, when I axed Fekete and Esterhazy from my final 25, it was primarily obit worries, and at the time, I did actually think to myself "It's me we're talking about here, its hardly likely to be a title changing decision if they died..."
