Donald J Trump

Well I for one am glad the liberal cope/denial is coming to an end in here. I hate to say this but I did tell you so guys. If you think this thread is silly now you probably do not remember late 2023/early 2024 when I personally was ridiculed, attacked and facepalmed to oblivion (but almost never with actual arguments) because I was one of the very few who had the audacity to say Donald Trump was the favorite to win in 2024. Everyone else here was convinced in their mind that even though Trump was pulling double digits when it came to the most important issues, and ahead in swing AND national polls, Biden was going to win simply because Trump is mean and orange and cranky and fat and orange again, oh and HE'S SOOO the one with the cognitive issues, not the actual INCUMBENT in office. Trump, the one who does twelve hours of rallies daily and 3-hour long podcasts with no breaks at 78 is the doddering old fool, not Joe. Yet it turned out eventually even Biden's people THEMSELVES knew what I was preaching here. My favorite response from this thread was someone calling me an "effing Italian" for no other reason than showing him a national poll with Trump ahead. THAT was the part that was so incredible to me, I mean I can understand people not being polling nerds or political experts, but to simply REJECT real data because it does not show you what you want to believe was quite the experience lol.

Now Trump not only won, he CLOBBERED Harris who had the worst presidential performance since John McCain in 2008 and the worst Democratic one since God knows when. Trump won the popular vote, the electoral college, the Senate, he carried governor's races and is on the cusp of winning the House. Heck, the man swung places like CA and NY like 12 points to his direction and was four points away from flipping FREAKING NEW JERSEY ffs. The man Democrats called Hitler (which btw is just absolutely ridiculous as an election closing message) actually won with one the largest and most racially diverse coalitions in modern election history, while the Democrats bledsupport everywhere. Now imagine how much worseALL OF THIS would have been had it still been Biden on the opposing ticket. If you still think this election is the result of 51 per cent of the electorate being xenophonic and racist and admiring someone who is "liTeRaLLy hItLeR" then our discussion stops here.

This forum, just like most parts on the Internet, lives in its own political bubble, abit similar to r/politics where they were still discussing how Harris was flippingTexas and Florida like a week before the election.

No one was beating Donald Trump this year, especially after the attempt. His approvals got a lot better, the fundamentals were against the Democrats, and people generally agreed with him on the issues (even if HE himself sometimes made it difficult to trust him). His campaign ran a PERFECT game, from the " bro" podcasts that gave him the young male vote to the McDonald's and "garbage truck" stunts to the seemingly random visits to Virginia and New York, while I still for the life of me cannot name you a single thing Kamala Harris stood for, except the "Trump bad" thing of course.

The scariest part of all of this to a Non-American who has no vote in the election but knows it will have a major impact on the future of his nation is that the polls are saying the 59 year old democratic former prosecutor and the 79 year old convicted felon, with a history of bankruptcy who is promising no more elections are running neck and neck. If Trump actually wins this election I would recommend that that the U.S. be quarantined as the site of some strange form of mental illness before it infects the rest of the world, if it isn't too late already.

Jesus I should not have checked previous messages on here.

You guys are going to look so silly in 2028 when there is no Donald Trump running anymore and a new Republican guy is on the ballot, I am sure you will still call that poor guy an "eXiStEnTiaL tHrEaT" to our democracy as well.

What are you talking about? The "who will win" poll on here had Trump in the lead, and it would have been far greater if Trump had faced Biden. And most of those votes weren't cast by Trump supporters, so even if you think this site is a bubble, it's not similar to r/politics at all. I mean, I think Trump sucks, but I backed your earlier argument in this very thread. Also, facepalmed to oblivion? That seems a bit dramatic considering you only got, like, three across three posts.

Trump didn't carry a single governor's race. None of them would have flipped, even if he ran the worst campaign of all time. (If anything, that would have only helped the GOP in NH given they love to split tickets.) And the MAGA movement definitely bears some of the blame for the Nude Africa trainwreck in North Carolina. He's also not on track to significantly expand the dysfunctional House majority, particularly given the two anti-Trump GOP representatives (Newhouse/Valadao) held on. If you were told how much he'd destroy Harris beforehand, you definitely wouldn't have also guessed he'd be in a place where he could feasibly lose a small amount of seats. I would've figured he'd crush it there, but instead it'll probably just be a mild nuisance to him and flip in 2026. Trump's coattails have always been pretty middling, though, so I guess it's not that much of a surprise.

Starmer will be blamed if four years of Trump and his protectionist tariffs cripples that economic growth he promised us, and trying to mitigate the damage by taking us back into the common market would also get him savaged in the press for 'breaking another election promise'. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes now.

Starmer will be under tons of pressure to agree to a Trump trade deal even if it’s bad for the UK the Tories, a reform and their media allies will be pushing it going by this week.

Actually i consider Trump an existential threat only because he stated in his campaign rallies that his supporters won't have to vote again after this election. I might strongly disagree with various political leaders and their policies, but if they respect the laws and aren't suggesting they will end democracy then they are simply expressing their views and whether those views are right or wrong , in my opinion, is irrelevant except in my personal decision of who  to vote for. If they win then they might lose the next election  unless most people think they did a good job.  That;'s how a democracy works. But I will strongly oppose anyone who chooses to be a dictator, ends elections or willfully chooses to break the law, Trump has stated intentions to do the first 2 and he certainly appears to have done the third based on what happened in 2020 after he lost the last election though now those allegations will never make it into court now that he has won re-election. I hope you are correct and there is an election in 2028, I'm just not confident that will be the case now that Trump has won in 2024.

I have no fear we will have elections in 2026 and 2028...

Such may well be the case, it's possibly even likely, but we have no facts about it and you're not providing any.

Tons of pressure from whom? What sort of a trade deal is being proposed here and by whom? Who representing the Tories and/or reform and/or what right wing media stated they will be pushing this week?

If that's all just you please use "I think" or "in my opinion" or some equivalent.

I still think you should get out more, but make that one change to your constant diatribe and I promise I'll stop my attemtps to get you to report me to the mods for harassment.

@mods, this is the kind of thing that drives me wild from him. You'd not care if it was infrequent, but it's constant day in day out - to the point I visit and 'mark all read' without reading. Nobody should care about me, or what I think, even I don't most of the time - but if I do it others will.

We all think he should get out more, away from his weird family.

I think it's sad more than irritating. The guy is so sheltered that his perceptions of the real world are incredibly warped. I think it'd be good to suspend him, even for a couple of weeks, just so he can get away from here and maybe go out a bit. I really feel for him.

I remember everyone here breathing a big sigh of relief and wishing him well when he said back in March he was taking everyone's advice on board and taking a break from the site for a while. Lasted maybe five days tops before he was back posting the same drivel as always.

Tbf, he's done nothing wrong. Just cos he pisses other members off is not grounds for suspension. I'm sure I too piss a lot of ppl off on here, but I know where the line is. He'd probably say that if he's winding ppl up that much maybe they are the ones who should step away for a while.

On a personal note I'll say this – a quick glance on Twitter, FB and Instagram shows a lot of Brits, and indeed Europeans, getting really wound up by Trump's re-election. My view – if you have time to post big energetic rants about an election in a foreign country on your social media, you have no real life problems. Good for you, but maybe time to go get a real life.

Kemi Badenoch for start. She is effectively demanding Starmer sign the trade deal the Tories partly negotiated a few years https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14065165/Kemi-Badenoch-Keir-Starmer-free-trade-deal-Trump-Terrible.html

I agree with Ulitzer on the part that he's done nothing wrong, although I'd hope that all these political discussions could be done in the extra-curricular section where there are multiple threads dedicated for politics.

Crem atleast occasionally posts a death, a non-political opinion or some piece of information (can't be said for some - looking at the "Carter is actually dead" conspiracy guy and a few others) and I doubt he talks politics with the intent of angering or agitating others.

Then please say so in the first place. And save everyone a lot of grief.

I personally have no time for the Daily Fail (or Badenough to be honest), but at least it's a recognised news service and not just a random musing from your head.

He doesn't look that bad for a 78 year old man IMO.He doesn't look great but not that bad.Biggest threat I think for him is assassination.

I mean the orange tan is awful but not indicative of his health. His sister was 86 his mother was 88 and his Dad was 93 and he doesn't drink or smoke and has no known health issues other than liking fast food and being slightly on the larger side. Can see him outliving Biden and Bill Clinton.Bush JR however has good age genes and seems OK.No chance he will outlive Carter though as he is immortal.

Bush has a history of smoking and drinking, unlike Trump though - which could be the curve-ball in this scenario. I think they'll both outlive their predecessors (and Biden), but I'm not 100% sure Bush would outlive Trump. Obama should outlive them all, unless he gets some kind of terribly hard to treat cancer or something.

Yes, but so did Papa Bush and Barbara. Bush will be the last president born in 1946 to die. Trump is manifestly unhealthy.

Don’t forget, when required to praise the Bush administration for something Gore Vidal chose physical fitness. He was right.
