Lower Age Limit For Forum Membership

Recommended Posts

I've spent the last few minutes looking at age checks for a forum. Other than using credit cards there's no way of knowing the age of the person typing an age or day of birth. That reality makes this discussion academic. Feel free to continue it.

Hein, my original post pertained to members who have stated that they are 'of a childs age' which is more like going up to the newsagents counter with a Porn mag, being asked your age and saying 'Well, im 15 but it doesn't matter because I can see people shagging online anyway.

Yeah, I understand that we have no idea who signs up to this place, deranged, underage or otherwise but when its obvious maybe we ought to be a bit cautious.

There is so much shit flying around nowdays in Blighty about kids accessing 'innapropriate websites' it will only take one parent to start the ball rolling.

We should never feel that smug that we are immune from unwanted attention or summat.

I appreciate your concern and I freely admit that my unavoidably Dutch view on such matters doesn't sense the finer points of the latest moral outrage in the tabloids. I wouldn't want a forum invasion by Mumsnet members. :)

I don't think forum users should be judged on their age, they should be judged on the quality of their posts. And if they're constantly posting utter and complete cuntfuckery, they should be banned.

Well that's 32% of the forum members out of the door.

Where shall we find another forum to inhabit Lardy? :D

Do I need to add Mumsnet to the list of forums I scour for "sad news about [marginally obit-worthy charity worker]" posts over the xmas period then?

Hell yes.

They got trolled this year or last by another forum I'm on.

They responded in numbers and it all ended smashingly (one mum posting a pic of her tits with writing on them to prove she was a dame).

Now those sort of actions make me not care about the health updates on there.

Lol, unsurprisingly, even though it was in the nsfw (ie you must 'say' you're over 18, like that works) section , they were swiftly deleted and shortly after she got punted when peace broke out between the two forums.

I think they have been posted back up a few times by posters who saved the pic, but they don't last long :(.

SparklingBrook was the bints name, I remember that much :D

Lets face it that teenagers are tech savvy. It is probably better they are in here than watching hardcore porn or buying drugs on line.

I am sure that if parental controls are in place then this forum would be blocked.

I say let them stay if they can cope with the constant verbal abuse and the correction of their grammer.

It isn't on the default content blocker than Vodafone uses but curiously the DDP site is.

Aye, sorted, so there's an entrance exam from now on asking to distinguish between their/they're/there and in what circumstances one might usefully employ a semi-colon

I can see no point of placing an age restriction on site. There are only a handful of regulars who post to the comments. Others tend to be from guests who drop by from time to time.
How many profiles on here that have been created where the person signed up, made one comment several years ago and has probably forgotten their username and password, or forgotten the site completely?

Short of there being an option "Are you over 14/16/17? Click "Yes" or "No"" you've no control over it.

Even use of grammar and spelling doesn't mean much these days. I know one person who has 4 bachelor degrees, just finished up on their PhD, works at the local uni as their head librarian, and the majority of emails I get from her I have to decipher because of how atrocious her grammar and spelling is.

I wasn't demanding it was good only that the posters are Man enough to take the flack from the grammar Nazis

And the correct usage of 'less' and 'fewer'.
