After the death of Dianne Feinstein Chuck Grassley is now the most fossilized member of the US Senate.

Not sure if he's thread-worthy but in the centuries of his stay in the Senate, 20 marriages have happened within people of his office:

And how many of those continue to be married?

Following the deaths of Zhirinovsky and Vadim Bakatin, three main candidates in the 1991 Russian presidential election remain:

Nikolai Ryzhkov, 92: Former Head of Government of the Soviet Union. Suffered a serious heart attack in December 1990, obese but still very active in politics and an incumbent senator.

Albert Makashov, 84: Antisemitic nationalist-communist. No idea how he's doing.

Aman Tuleyev, 78: Governor of Kemerovo 1996-2018. Obese and underwent a seemingly complicated surgery in 2017.

Vasily Zakharov (1934) Minister of Culture 1986-1989

Simon Case, Cabinet secretary and head of civil service, taking a few weeks off for a medical issue. This news gets a sub headline on the front page of the Daily Telegraph which feels a bit odd for someone taking time off sick.

Nothing trivial, I hope.

I think the Telegraph’s angle is that he’s been due to give evidence to the Covid inquiry, but this mystery illness will fall neatly over those sessions.

Edmund Marshall, former Labour MP for Goole (1971-1983) Telegraph Obit: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2023/10/23/edmund-marshall-mathematician-mp-labour-liberal-democrat/

After losing his seat he went to the SDP and then the LibDems with little political success.

Marshall's death means that there hasn't been a single year in the 2020s (so far) where more Tory MPs have died. Why this is the case I don't understand given that the Tories won more elections in the 20th and 21st centuries?

2020
Con: 13 (incl. Christopher Brocklebank-Fowler who was later SDP)
Lab: 15

2021
Con: 12
Lab: 13 (incl. Shirley Williams who was later SDP)

2022
Con: 5
Lab: 6

2023
Con: 10
Lab: 11 (incl. Betty Boothroyd who was later Speaker)

Sounds like they skeptical he is genuinely ill. It’s unusual for the broadsheets to prominently do the read between the lines type of reporting that tabloids do more .

Keith Harding (wiki), former Tory MSP, died on 15 November 2021, aged 82. Just updated his Wiki, which still had him listed as living.

A few notes on him – former leader of Stirling Council (1991–1995), very well liked across the political divide (e.g. he was the only Tory to be invited to former First Minister Jack McConnell's 40th birthday bash), defected to the neoliberal "New Party" in 2003 with MSP colleague Lyndsay McIntosh. Later retired to Brittany from 2004, where he was active before dying from a sudden illness.

Received obits from The Scotsman and The Courier, but it was never spotted/reported on DL Forums for some reason.

Actually it mainly depends on the development of the country. Tanzania and Kenya are the most developed and have the worst living immortal fuckers. People like David Musuguri, Charles Njonjo, Duncan Ndegwa, Moody Awori, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Cleopa Msuya seem unsinkable.

Duncan Ndegwa de.... playing golf at 98.

Won't likely bother us for a few years.

Surprisingly nothing in the media as of yet.

I wonder if he actually died in Parliament itself? Been a long time since that happened. I believe you’re technically not allowed to so they don’t pronounce MPs/peers dead until they’re out of the grounds.
