Would 100% have her on the list if she makes it (With those type of injuries at that age she could go downhill quite quickly) if you pardon the expression

Does Bardot will die before her ? The match is on between these two legends of cinema born in 1934.

I have a feeling sadly that next year we are going to lose Sophia Loren and that would tie in with  @msc hypothesis/idea that years ending in 4 are often littered with very  significant big name deaths.

There is no doubt she is a very big and unique icon of cinema and film culture.

Sophia is the last survivor from the AFI 50 Greatest Stars list complied in 1999. 25 men and women were selected from 250 nominees of both genders. The other living nominees are Ann Blyth, Claire Bloom, Mitzi Gaynor, Rita Moreno, Piper Laurie and Margaret O’Brian.

At least one female nominee has died per year since the list was created, the most recent being Gina this past January.

Loss of confidence comes usually at that age after such a fall.Plus a slow rehabilitation period often follows. The shock usually ages people too.Plus was the fall an unfortunate accident like a slip OT trip or was it caused by another medical problem such as her heart rate a TIA or osteoarthritis and or osteoporosis. All things to consider.

One to keep a very close eye on going forward.

Watched Arabesque for the first Time yesterday : put her on the damn list next year ! I know She looks healthy but she will turn 90 in a week and missing her would be embarassing considering her fame. If Bardot has a place on the list, so should Loren !
Also, what a shame Donen died off the list : one of the most acclaimed and famous director of all Time and 94 should have guarantee him a place on the list. I remember he was a personal favorite of mine When I began deadpooling and I felt he was a bit overlooked on here….

"She looks healthy"

So remind me why she ought to be on?

Should we just have every healthy A-lister on the list?

Maybe because she’s the last classical actress standing of that level of fame and is entering her 90 ? Maybe because she underwent emergency surgery a year ago and because we all know how fast it could go down at that age ? Maybe because there are far less famous picks on the list and far less frail too ?
I prefer scoring with Loren than with Nigel Starmer Smith but that’s personal I conceed.

I think all the A list actresses from 1934 (IE Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Annette Crosbie, Eileen Atkins, Jean Marsh etc) are DLy as is 1933s Dame Sian Phillips.

Of those several are very healthy for their age and can wait. That includes Dench who was on TV last month and beyond the whole blindness thing looked fairly robust. Marsh has been ill for a while (possibly borderline A list but it's my list and I don't care), and Smith has been reportedly frail for ages too.

But in general I think most of them (Loren included) have great chances of being DL bedblockers by the end of this decade!

I don't understand the notion of "x is really famous and old, they should be on the list even if they are healthy"

This is how people end up as bedblockers. If an A-lister is omitted because they're seemingly healthy and then dies in the year, I wouldn't consider it a miss. If the committee wants to hit higher numbers then they need to consider more than just age.

Fwiw, I'm not in favour of Starmer-Smith being on either. A, B and even C-listers I'm fine with, but he's so obscure that even my friend who is regarded as one of the most elite sports quizzers in Britain hadn't heard of him. I also agree that there are far less frail people on the list, but for me that doesn't justify an apparently healthy 90 year old being on (assuming she is healthy, I've not really looked and am taking your word) even if they are extremely famous.

I see your point that just being in your 90s can be a risk and maybe those that are sick and dying could have a higher percentage of getting a hit. But so called healthy 90 year old will surprise you as well and you get the surprise death announcement that they just in the middle of the night die.Or someone can be sickly for years and we wonder how they keep holding on, and not give a hit.  It all is what makes Death listing interesting. Every year can be interesting as to who dies and if Deathlist or even our personal list are going to get a great number of hits or not so much.  Personally I think the committee does fairly well at looking at the pros and cons to their choices and I think they do take in consideration and balance of people that are sick as well as just old.

That’s bollocks - anyone who knows anything about rugby union knows who Starmer-Smith is.

Aside from that out of curiosity how has your friend managed to establish that he is one of the most elite sports quizzers in Britain?

I agree, except for  Starmer-Smith.

Well, I know jack about rugby union but I am aware of N S-S, more as a commentator than a player.   It may be from being of a certain age and Grandstand on Saturday afternoons.

She looked amazing at her birthday celebration. Safe for a few years, I guess.
