Joey Russ 7,226 Posted December 16, 2016 Well, for my 2nd year in the DDP, I'mma change my team name to "For Them The Bell Tolls", featuring a pretty common pick as a joker, a couple of shameless types, and one incredibly strange, hopefully unique, pick that could come in handy when I need it most. I will be submitting my team around Christmas Eve. Beware Deathlisters, my team might actually not be so crappy in 2017. Well, that unique person will now be on spade's team. Joey Russ 7,226 Posted December 16, 2016 Not gonna reveal my main line up yet (anyone could announce terminal illness at any time, plus anyone could die and someone might be unique), but I'm gonna announce my theme team now. Here's Don't Stop The Beat (a theme team about drummers) Ginger Baker (Cream) (joker) Neil Peart (Rush) Hal Blaine Stewart Copeland (The Police) Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones) DJ Fontana (Elvis Presley) Ringo Starr (The Beatles) Bill Bruford (King Crimson/Yes) Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa) Joseph Modeliste (The Meters) Bernard Purdie Ian Paice (Deep Purple) Steve Gadd Danny Carey (Tool) Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge) Roger Hawkins (Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section) James Gadson Tony Allen Steve Smith (Journey) Sub list: Jim Keltner Jack DeJohnette Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band)
Bibliogryphon 9,579 Posted December 16, 2016 It is lucky you are not on the same continent as Lardy with that pick. You have DJ Fontana and I have DC Fontana on my Shadowlist. No chance of confusion there then.
Ulitzer95 12,596 Posted December 16, 2016 Dave Grohl?! Have I missed something?
Joey Russ 7,226 Posted December 16, 2016 Dave Grohl?! Have I missed something? Some names are certainly not going to die soon, but I felt it would be incomplete without them.
Ulitzer95 12,596 Posted December 16, 2016 Then surely you're just entering a team for the sake of it rather than trying to actually get points? You've overlooked a lot of drummers who actually stand a decent chance of passing away next year... e.g. Roy Haynes

Ulitzer95 12,596 Posted December 16, 2016 I think you could be right. Collins is in a right state. Would be a shock if both him and Ginger Baker make it to 2018. One of them has to give soon.

You just never know. That said, educated guesses are probably better than padding. It's not the predictability of dying that's interesting, it's the unpredictability.
Joey Russ 7,226 Posted December 16, 2016 A lot of it is random guessing tbh. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if 5 members of that team is dead by the end of the year. I'm expecting more from the main team.

RadGuy 1,614 Posted December 19, 2016 So, I was gonna change my team name to "For Them The Bell Tolls" for 2017, but after msc complimented my current name "To Kill A Gabor Sister" in their updating of the Crowdsourced Deathlist for Zsa Zsa Gabor, I might not change it after all. YoungWillz 21,044 Posted December 19, 2016 65 teams in so far... How many now need to use their first sub though? Not mine, but I'm worried 2016 might still have time to slap my teams down.
YoungWillz 21,044 Posted December 21, 2016 It's really annoying. Telegraph and Financial Times have also gone premium in respect of obits and the Indy is useless (and is being dropped anyway). So difficult to read about these people in any detail any more.
msc 18,442 Posted December 21, 2016 FT can be read if you search for their news story within the Google News page itself. Telegraph can be read with a non-pay membership. Although their site is a sod to log into on Firefox.

Joey Russ 7,226 Posted December 21, 2016 The trick is to be a journalist and have free access to these sites as the sole perk of the job. That would definitely explain why David Quantick Showbiz Pals keeps winning these things. Although somehow Michel Delpech still hasn't obit...

So difficult to read about these people in any detail any more. Indeed how long will it be before obituaries on those cannot be accessed, so we wouldn't be able to see if anyone has got a legit obit? That means more Daily Mail...

msc 18,442 Posted December 21, 2016 Twitter becomes a QO. List of the Lost retires. Then I could play a teacher I don't like on the DDP One of my teachers died a few months ago, and would actually have got a QO in last years DDP. Small world.
Sean 6,315 Posted December 21, 2016 Sent my 3 teams over to you TMIB.Same names as last 3.Shaun of the Dead 69,Slippery Soap and No more expenses.Only change is no more expenses as a theme team includes both chambers in the commons in the 2017 edition.Doing the main list was bloody hard as I had to figure out whether to prioritise potential top 40 picks versus the less well known young ones that are dead certs!Tough! Gooseberry Crumble 5,342 Posted December 21, 2016 Well Telegraph obituaries at least has a twitter account not sure about FT. Surely if it's on the twitter account it's a given its on the main websites obituary page for the Telegraph.
