ObakeFilter 869 Posted June 20, 2017 As mentioned in the British Character Actors thread, Day-Lewis has retired from acting for ambiguous reasons (quoting his spokeswoman, this move "is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. ”), as he is nearing the total lifespan of both his father, and grandfather before, I think it raises some concerns. The Mad Hatter 1,092 Posted June 20, 2017 He hasn't acted in much films recently anyway. Doubt this means anything.

He always was a very fastidious role picker, taking years before reappearing on screen, he didn't even had to declare a hiatus to disappear from public eye for a while. I think there's more than that here.
LilyForrester 81 Posted June 20, 2017 His dad died in his sixties. This could be nothing, or could be something. For some reason I have a feeling he might be an decent pick though.

Aye, caught it half way through on Radio Four this morning and briefly thought him dead. They obviously have a pre-prepared obit and went with some of that. He's a complicated type more likely than not to decide to come back before too long. Not much hard evidence he's seriously ill

Which leads to the question, who has the longest retirement in acting history? Elisabeth "Janet's sister" Waldo hasn't appeared in any film or TV show since 1945's Song of Mexico and is still with us.

Oft-deadpool fodder Mary Carlisle retired in 1942, I think.

Altogether higher profile - Brigette Bardot hasn't made a movie in living memory (for most of us). Still breathing and highly obitable
RobertMugabe 437 Posted June 27, 2017 Day Lewis is a great method actor. If I had a choice of who would play Mugabe in the farm biopic, it would be between Day Lewis, Downey Jnr and Danny Glover.
