Derby Dead Pool 2018

Recommended Posts

The unnatural death bonus only seems to apply if the external stimulus occurs in that calendar year as well.  For instance, Jessica Falkholt had her car accident in 2017 but didn't die until January and thus was ineligible for the bonus.  There was a precedent for this but I can' t remember who.  So if Michael Schumacher dies next year he won't attract the bonus unless there is a new stimulus.  I don't think I've seen that rule written as such but it certainly seems to be the interpretation of the rule.

Personally I would like to see euthanasia stripped of the bonus as well but I'll leave that for the decision makers.

Simon Ricketts had been very active on Twitter until November 18 and nothing since.  Could be a clue to a downward slide or his phone might not be working.  Who knows?

No illness is unnatural.

He did like some stuff as recently as the 22nd, but yeah, hasn’t been on Twitter since. Does feel like someone who is likely to die after a brief period of silence though...

Illnesses such cancer, heart attacks, infections, vitamin deficiencies, etc would all be treated as natural.  The unnatural bonus is for accidents, murder, suicide etc.  There will always be grey areas, if someone had a non-fatal stroke but hit their head on the ground after a fall....These would fall to Spade's discretion I guess (ably assisted by the forum I'm sure).  There are probably enough precedents out there so that a decision can be made which is consistent with previous rulings.

Hey Banana.  I'm fairly new here too, but I think any naturally occurring disease would not be considered an unnatural death.  I believe this would also include things like lung cancer from smoking or asbestos exposure for example, or cirrhosis of the liver from alcoholism.  Not sure about something like exposure to Ebola or something exotic like that, unless it was intentional (terrorism).  But that would be so rare as to be infinitesimal in likelihood.

.....although if an elderly person 'falls' down, like oh I don't know maybe 98% of them tend to do, Powers That Be have determined a person should NEVER fall down so that is unnatural SMFH SMFH SMFH.

I agree falls are common, but then where do you draw the line? 65?80?  Basically you are saying old age is a disease then.

According to the CDC- "Approximately one in four U.S. residents aged ≥65 years (older adults) report falling each year (2), and fall-related emergency department visits are estimated at approximately 3 million per year.* In 2016, a total of 29,668 U.S. residents aged ≥65 years died as the result of a fall (age-adjusted rate = 61.6 per 100,000) "

If my math is right, that means you have a 0.06% chance of dying from a fall if you are a senior.  Actually seems pretty unnatural then when you look at it that way.  Falls are common, actually dying due to it is very much not.

Preaching to the choir.
I think 'unnatural' is like pornography -- I can't describe it but I know it when I see it.  (See: John and Mrs. Nash).

Suicide has no business as unnatural.  It's PRECISELY the natural result of the act performed.  It's the INTENDED result.
Diseases aren't unnatural.  I don't care if you go for a skinny dip and pick up a flesh eating virus.  Guess what that virus does -- eats flesh -- you die.  Naturally.
If otoh you go for a skinny dip and are swallowed whole by a Great White Fishy -- I believe you have obtained pointhood.  If you can't understand the difference I can't help you.

Really, I think the best way to describe unnatural bonus is that it can be given if the cause of death is caused by an external force rather than within your own body.

And please, don't argue about this, we don't need anymore arguing about potential rule changes that are unnecessary...

Can someone go to the DDP site, if I've done this right what we should have is the homepage with no working links and no pictures. Is that right for everyone?

I'VE FUCKING DONE IT. TAKE THAT PLUSNET YA CUNTS.

Hilariously, the domain was still registered to Big Iain. As in, the email address on the domain registry was at least 15 years out of date, possibly more. Now to upload the 14,000 files to get back to square one (if certain pages look out of date or irregular for the next hour or so, don't worry).

First thing we discovered: so since at least 1998, the DDP website has contained a virus.

You'd have thought that virus might have killed off some more picks over the years.....

According to this, DDP pick Anthony Smith (some cancer dad) died in August.  GL with a QO.  Here's an obit.  Unique for Drunkasaskunk but really one for the Lost

Also -- DDP pick Mike Pintek died 12 Sept, but as expected no QO.
