Songs that would never be made today?

Recommended Posts

Inspired by that Peter Wyngarde "Rape" song discussed the other day;

Then there's this Devo song:

this Black Eyed Peas song which was re-released as let's get it started a few years later for radio

And this dodgy classic that was being played in offices up and down the country when 70s pedos were discovered!

Ah come on, put some effort into this! None of the scorpions songs are as dubious/dodgy or anywhere near that as the opening posts contents. They were just a jobbing band. This isn't going to work if people are being this lazy stop loweing the tone of my thread you cunt..

Now that is more like it. Sadly that song like Oingo Boingo was never going to get across the intended point and feels as dodgy despite being presumably well meaning. It's sad that GG Allin got seen as an utter loon given his issues we're clearly borne out of serious abuse as a kid.

Serge Gainsbourg with his daughter Charlotte - Lemon Incest

I think she was nine at the time.

I think she was 12 or 13 actually, still fricked! Serge was messed man

And some songs: not posting links but you'll get why
Rape Me - Nirvana - self explanatory
Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Bitch - eh
maybe Satisfaction by Benni Benassi or whatever his name was, the song that went like "push me, til I can get my satisfaction" and had the super sexist music video. its from like 2005 or something but there'd be a riot if it was released now.

I disagree with virtually every song mentioned.  And thus this thread.  Brown Sugar prolly the only one that makes sense, and what a fucking shame that would be.  That’s their best fahkin song!

Punk/shock acts.....well, making songs like that is why they exist!  So strike Allin and Oingo, and to a lesser extent Devo—which frankly isn’t even disturbing at all.  BEP IS ‘now’ for fucksake.

Delete this thread unless you deliver content.

I think the point is that there seem to be more and more stupid snowflakes looking for imaginary offensiveness, and wanting to ban everything where their own perverse little minds find it.

There was a thread on Mumsnet the other day:

To wonder why this song is still ok to play on the radio

Jealous Guy
Written and performed by a man who admitted he was violent towards women.
Just that really.

She went on to say:

I agree that lots of musicians will have committed crimes. That wasn't my point. It is that the song seems to be excusing domestic violence because it wasn't his fault, he was just jealous, poor guy, AND was written and performed by a man who admitted being violent to women.  It's the combination iyswim.

Not everyone agreed with her, but I didn't have the heart to read on.

Oh, that is a superb performance from Rhoda Dakar, but it's not something you want to hear twice!   Traumatising.

I used to have an album with that on, might have been a 2-Tone compilation.

This was it.  It was on cassette (ask your parents, kids), hence I no longer have it.

Used to play it in the car, no car CD players then, not in my old banger anyway.  Ah, memories.

Surprised it wasn't launched from the car at speed...

That one, if released today, would now get headlines and protests and so on. In 1971, no one cared.

Speaks for itself, I think nowadays people won''t get this song and just take it literally.

And last for two reasons: Gary Glitter singing 'Do you wanna touch me', gets a whole other meaning now.
And with the whole #Metoo thing, male sexual self-worshipping/dominance would not fall good now.

I think the Ted Mulry Gang song "Jump in My Car" would be a tough sell these days.

There are a few cover versions that would be ballsy.  Gary Glitter or Rolf Harris doing "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" wouldn't go platinum.  But I would've liked Michael Jackson to fund his legal bills by putting out an EP with a cover of The Divinyls "Young Boys are My Weakness" on one side and "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" on the other.
