Nah, she's just lost a little weight which is understandable, she won't have been eating proper food for some time in hospital.

And she has had her hair styled in a more flattering way.

A British couple hospitalized in critical condition were exposed to the same nerve agent that nearly killed former Russia spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in March, London’s Metropolitan Police said Wednesday.

Authorities did not say whether the couple, identified by multiple media outlets as 45-year-old Charlie Rowley and 44-year-old Dawn Sturgess, were exposed to the same batch of Novichok that poisoned Sergei and Yulia Skripal.

So Putin is being accused of  murdering a British homeless person. That'll put a dampener on his world cup party then !

Intrigued why you used the word "homeless" at all, CL.

A life has been lost. Universal Credit introduction and benefit sanctions have killed more people in this country. Dampener much on England's progress in the World Cup? I wouldn't draw that analogy.

Just discovered today, through his Times obit, that Michael Bettaney, an MI5 officer jailed for 23 years in 1984 for attempting to pass secrets to the Russians, died in August aged 68. I remember his case very well, probably because he lived in my home town of Coulsdon in Surrey.

Anyone think this Matthew Hedges guy actually looks like a spy?

When he was sentenced, his gf seemed to give what I can only describe as a cold unemotional plea to Jezza Hunt. Pair of them very suss imo.

imo the real spies don't get caught, or if they do, backstage deals happen and we never heard about it.

Ah, but that assumes we have competent Foreign Secretaries who don't let it get to the stage of conviction...

Charles McCarry spent almost 10 years in the CIA as an undercover agent, operating alone as he roamed throughout Africa, Europe and Asia in the 1950s and 1960s. He never carried a gun.

After he resigned from the CIA, Mr. McCarry used many of those elements in what came to be seen as his masterpiece, “The Tears of Autumn.” But when he turned in his manuscript, it was initially rejected by his publisher.  Later published in 1974, “The Tears of Autumn” has sold millions of copies and has been hailed as a classic of espionage fiction.

Mr. McCarry, whose novels about spycraft and politics were deeply admired if not always well known, died Feb. 26 at a hospital in Fairfax County, Va. He was 88.

Robert Levinson, a former FBI special agent and undercover CIA asset, has died while in captivity in Iran, according to a statement by his family.

Levinson’s story is complicated, to say the least. The former FBI special agent retired from the Bureau in 1998. He then proceeded to work as a private investigator. In 2007, he went missing on the Iranian island of Kish.

Levinson had the unfortunate fate of becoming the longest-held hostage in American history. The last proof of life that the family had received was almost 10 years ago.

In the statement, the Levinson family said that “Today, with aching hearts, we are sharing devastating news about Robert Levinson, the head of our family. We recently received information from U.S. officials that has led both them and us to conclude that our wonderful husband and father died while in Iranian custody.”
