Paul Bearer 6,100 Posted February 4, 2006 (edited) When I first read the article on Al Lewis's death on cnn.com, his age was given as 95. The article now reads that Al's age was 83. Who knows, it might change in another half hour. 82 according to this site see here for explanation of his age Edited February 4, 2006 by heaven can wait
3minutes2midnight 1 Posted February 4, 2006 Al Lewis is, was, undoubtedly famous enough, but I am disappointed not to see an obituary on the BBC website. They have one of a piano playing son of a long dead italian dictator. But no Grandpa. Shame on them.

Windsor 2,233 Posted February 4, 2006 Anyhow, Al Lewis is deathlist's 2nd success in 2006. He is the 139th success since 1987. The 2006 list is now in 17th place out of the 20 deathlists since 1987. Number 13 on the list - certainly unlucky for him. Perhaps we should rename you Mr.Stats. No no - Windsor I shall remain. I am not worthy of 'Mr. Stats'. football_fan 42 Posted February 5, 2006 The BBC usualy are a bit on the slow side at reporting slebs on the other side of the pond. Still nothing from the BBC, but a U.K. obituary for him is in the Guardian Actor, Politician Al Lewis Dies at
Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted February 5, 2006 sheesh, for most of 2005, he was on my 2006 DDP 20. Then I read that he was active, so I moved him out of the top 20 into my reserve spot. Then I figure out he's 82 not 95. Then the bugger goes and dies! I feel robbed! Nonetheless, I'm sorry to see him go. And I'm sticking with 83. I suppose even if it's not cleared up now, come late March/April, I'll have a look on the SSDI & see what his real age was. He may suprise us yet post-death. Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted February 5, 2006 BBC Obit They say 82, apparently his son said he was 82 in one of these reports... Still I don't suppose it really matters...

Canadian Paul 97 Posted February 5, 2006 There's an extensive discussion here about his age. Either way, for Deathlist, Rotten and DDP, it doesn't really matter.
Guest lazur Posted February 6, 2006 I understand that makeup can have amazing effects, but it still seems unlikely that Al lewis began his role on the Munsters at the age of 41!

Mortician 2 Posted February 6, 2006 I understand that makeup can have amazing effects, but it still seems unlikely that Al lewis began his role on the Munsters at the age of 41! And was only 3 years older than Fred Gwynn who played Herman.... Perhaps he faked his earlier birth date to get the role? It certainly got him DL noticed before his time... Perhaps we can have a memorial thread based on co-stars who's ages were obviously wrong... Jessie Royce Landis played Cary Grant's mother in North by Northwest even though she was born 10 months after him

Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted February 6, 2006 Anne Bancroft was only six years older than Dustin Hoffman, yet she was a dirty old lady whilst seducing him in The Graduate. She died last year, so maybe we should cue Dustin up for the 2011 DL.

There's a great quote from Lord Olivier when they were filming 'Marathon Man' together. Hoffman had kept himself awake for 3 days to get his character to the right point of mania. When he told Olivier of this, he replied "My dear boy, have you considered acting?"
Guest J Money Posted February 7, 2006 Despite the main stream media's deferment to Al's son, there is a real debate about his age. Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Al_Lewis People have done quite a bit of research by searching the U.S. census data. If he's really only 83 or so, then he's lied about nearly everything from his early career including college, his labour union work, Sacco and Vanzetti, being a published author, etc. People have done quite a bit of research by searching the U.S. census data. Maybe his son is right but wouldn't he want to protect his father's reputation and let the lie about his age go on? I'd love to see an interview where someone says, so basically your father is nothing but a big liar? Personally, I'd believe Grandpa before his son. I'm a huge fan.
