The Dead Cow 620 Posted December 20, 2018 Alright then, I think this one will be rather easy for you lot, but at least it's seasonal. This Christmas carol was a hit in the UK charts in the 70s and it featured in an episode of a BBC sitcom in 1997.

Apologies for accidental post above btw.. Mind, Mike Oldfield did do another tune which was featured in the sitcom I'm referring to, though not a Christmas carol. Maybe I should clarify, by 'hit' I mean it reached the top 20 of the UK charts.

A BBC sitcom then * looks like Amazing Grace was on it at least 3 times, one being in Season 7, which aired in the States in 96 and in Blighty in 97. ** I fully accept I misread the q and freely admit it is a hymn, not a carol, so its "out" . Features in I'm Alan Partridge when Alan plays it to his date Jill on the way to the owl sanctuary. Whenever I hear Gaudete now I can't help but think of that scene. Just the author’s style in general. The author in question is Raymond Chandler, off of detective fiction.

charon 4,943 Posted December 22, 2018 1970's UK top 30 hit (very well known) , was recorded by the Artiste after hearing it on a Yankee advert, which was the first time it had been performed so to speak.

Are you saying it was recorded firstly for the advert, and then only maybe later for an album (like U2 and Apple)? My immediate guess is "Anticipation" but that had been released prior to being a Heinz ketchup song. I know it's wrong, but trying to wrack my brain what advert had a decent song lol. It's the advert that is going to be obscure and is the red herring.
