I'm leaning more towards this as its definitely more unlikable than the former suggestion. Little White Bull it is. My next clue was going to be that I mentioned it in the songs you never want to hear again thread.
Toast 16,137 Posted December 13, 2018 I'm not sure if it's the song itself that's so horrible, or just Tommy Steele's delivery of it. Anyway This 1980 song was a first ever UK chart entry for its female solo artist. It was written by another female artist, lead singer of a band, and included on an album by them in the same year. The B side was a cover of a Joy Division song.

True enough, also those awful stage school brats singing along with him, it real nails down blackboard stuff.

It took a while for the penny to drop, but today I learned that Mike Pratt, actor, is also Michael Pratt, songwriter.

Toast 16,137 Posted December 14, 2018 Or in the meantime anyone can have a go - keeps up the momentum of the game. Be nice if people post a clip of the song when it's been guessed. (Apart from Little White Bull, of course)

Toast 16,137 Posted December 14, 2018 This song was performed at Live Aid in 1985. The same title was used for a song and album by an American artist a couple of years later.

This involves a fairly loose definition of 'a couple of years', but possibly Human Touch as performed by Rick Springfield at Live Aid, then being the title track Bruce Springsteen's ninth studio album.
