Predictor 1,018 Posted December 22, 2019 Started researching yesterday. Unlike previous years, I want to submit my team asap instead of waiting till new year's eve. *Two are names that I have picked in previous DDPs *One is from my Deathrace 2019 list *Nine are very well-known celebs that I have never selected before *I think six/seven people fall into the "0 mentions on the forum" category *I've dropped my yearly tradition of having a supercentenarian in my team. It's a waste of a valuable slot *The Swedish quota tradition is intact, but it's not easy to find obitable Swedes who are likely to die soon

DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted December 22, 2019 I'm trying to be less impatient this time around, instead of sacking all of my survivors only to watch them succumb weeks or months later. But I really don't like giving people another chance. So will probably follow the usual pattern of mass redundancies, putting together a half good new team from scratch, making it less good by trying to be stylish and including an obscure Polynesian ski-jumper and a Latvian nun, with the final effort unlikely to meet expectations, finishing even beyond the UEFA cup places.

I thought the last bit gave it away, not quite to Reptile's classic "could have Done More" standard but still. [Also, bit unfair to assume in hindsight that 2017 DQSP is 2020 DQSP...] Anyhow afaik the press got bored, moved onto newer sob stories.

Joey Russ 7,228 Posted December 26, 2019 Down to 40 names and 12 locks, and now is the point where I’m trying to figure out stuff such as which names reek of fraud...

RadGuy 1,614 Posted December 27, 2019 I haven't been taking it very seriously this year, but sort of got back into the swing of things in the past week or so. Currently four names are battling it out for the final two spots.

Not really, there really are sicker candidates out there. Which probably means I'll miss a huge name. It wouldn't surprise me if Wonder went next year, but maybe he has the Poitier gene? One I looked at hard was Wayne Hussey from Dead Or Alive, thereafter The Mission. Looks and sounds like a sack of awfulness, but still touring/doing interviews and seemingly loving it. He'd be a good outside bet.

The Fringey cert someone (not me) is going to pick hasn't been mentioned, nor has the potential Mark Farren of 2020, nor a Guardian luvvie or that 12 pointer who wouldn't be a QO cert even 2-3 years ago. Even the front page of the BBC statesman meant to be in grave health goes unmentioned. Seems like most folk are, as a former DDP host put it, keeping their powder dry. And yes, none of them are Banana's pick... Fringey cert = Suzie Aries Mark Farren = Kieran O'Connor (misdirection) Guardian luvvie - Frank Bowling 12 pointer - Dawn Lee statesman - Tabare Vasquez (who is on the mend)
