In mid-1964, when he was clearly approaching the end and frail, friends used to ask Winston Churchill how he felt, and he described the sensation as being at the end of a long air flight, hanging around above the airport, waiting for the clearance to land and rest. Jimmy's now taxiing above the landing strip imo.

This is, for remainers or even just people not on the hard right, just a tactical voting exercise. Everyone needs to check who’s most likely to unseat a Tory and potentially end up voting for a party they’d in normal circumstances rather shit into their hands and clap than elect. Myself included this time. But it relies on remainfolk/non-right-wingers thinking to do that check (because Lab and Lib won’t get their shit together and work with each other) and we as a nation are shit at doing that. It’s gonna be close.

There's a A transit of Mercury today when the planet Mercury passes directly between the Sun and the Earth, becoming visible against (and hence obscuring a small portion of) the solar disk. During a transit, Mercury appears as a tiny black dot moving across the disk of the Sun. Mercury will begin to creep onto the sun's disk at 1235hrs GMT and it will take about 5 hour and 28 minutes to make its way across, with the transit ending at 1804hrs GMT. The next transit will be on 13th November 2032.

I think the lovely but sadly increasingly frail looking Duchess of Kent who turns 87 next year should be strongly considered by voters to go on next year's list.

Scientist and renowned proponent of the gaia theory centenarian James Lovelock is definitely a worthy name for consideration for this list.

Emmerdale soap matriarch Annie Sugden AKA centenarian Sheila Mercier should definitely keep her place on this list.

The GRO Death Index has recently been updated to cover deaths from 1984 to 2019 although the index only gives year of birth and not full d.o.b. It's free to search, although you need to register. Still a gap between 1957 and 1984, but FreeBMD has that pretty much covered. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp

Since we're bored, it's worth mentioning that a Legacy obit has surfaced for Anna Mae Blessing, confirming she died on 5th December 2018. This obit wasn't online until months after her death. I annoyingly lose my first ever DDP hit - unique at that - but Terror of the Vervoorts wasn't exactly gunning for the title at 146th place.

Impossible. When I saw the McCain thread again active again I was 107% sure that she had died.

I reckon Caine will go suddenly, rather than us knowing of some kind of illness or whatever. But I don't think it'll be soon. Not this decade, anyway. I hope.
