Actor Clarence Gilyard, known for his roles as Theo in Die Hard, "Sundown" in Top Gun, and pastor Bruce Barnes in Left Behind: The Movie, has died at 66. Probably more well-known for his television roles as Jimmy Trivette (opposite Chuck Norris) on Walker, Texas Ranger and Conrad McMasters (opposite Andy Griffith) on Matlock. He later became a theatre professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Cary Grant died on this day 36 years ago, aged 82. Grant was born with the name Archibald Leach, and he performed in vaudeville shows during the 1920s after moving to the US. In 1931, after starring in the play Nikki (opposite Fay Wray), Leach was signed to Paramount Pictures and changed his name to sound "all-American". His movies in the '30s and '40s included Blond Venus, The Awful Truth, Bringing Up Baby, Only Angels Have Wings, Penny Serenade, and None But the Lonely Heart, with the latter two earning him Oscar nominations. During the 1940s and 1950s, Grant worked closely with Alfred Hitchcock, starring in films of his such as Suspicion, Notorious, To Catch A Thief, and (most notably) North by Northwest. Grant was considered for the role of James Bond in Dr. No, but was turned down as he was only committed to one film as the character (and thus the role went to Sean Connery). Grant retired from acting in 1966 when his daughter Jennifer was born. While at an Iowa theatre in 1986, Grant began to stumble in front of his photographer, and was taken back to the hotel he was staying at. Grant was suffering from a stroke, and he refused to be taken to the hospital- he slipped into a coma, was taken to said hospital, and died close to midnight. Following this, at the Mandela Bar at the University of Warwick, the idea of a certain list first formed when the news reached a "large team of novices"...

Here in Brazil and in Latin America he is idolized, considered a genius of comedy, in Mexico games the narrators always remember him and use catchphrases from his programs, there is a player called Luis Chavez, in the Mexican national team and they make jokes by his name and the character Chaves, as one of his programs

On this day in 2010 Canadian American actor Leslie Nielsen died aged 84. Best known for his comedic parts in the Naked Gun film franchise and the disaster drama movie Airplane- although he was also very much present in what is referred to as the golden age of american television in the 1950s in the early days of the medium. Anecdotally, when I hear his name I always remember him appearing on The Terry Wogan show making crude farting jokes with his costar Priscilla Presley. On this day in 2003 former Southampton FC football player and subsequently their manager , Ted Bates, died aged 85. He played for Southampton from 1937-1953 and successfully managed them between 1955-1973, steering them to progress to promotion through the various football leagues. So much so that his eventual nickname was Mr Southampton. Ted was from a strong sporting family being the son of cricketer Eddie Bates who played for Yorkshire and also for Glamorgan, as well as playing football for Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United. He was also the grandson of cricketer Billy Bates , who is regarded as one of England crickets best all rounders in the early days of international cricket.

Quotation from "Master and Margarita" (1929-1940), by Mikhail Bulgakov. Woland's words to Berlioz during their meeting at the Patriarch's Ponds in Moscow: "- Yes, man is mortal, but that would be half the trouble. The bad thing is that he is sometimes suddenly mortal, that's the trick! ". Shortly after this meeting, Berlioz died after being hit by a tram. ___________________________________ But if we ask the old Roman question: who benefits? Cui bono? Turkey and China demonstrate that they want to see Belarus as an independent player. Ukraine is in no hurry to recognise Tikhanovska. Perhaps it is Makiej's long-standing personal connections that have contributed to this position. Only Russia is interested in absorbing Belarus in exchange for oblivion of the blitzcringe in Ukraine. By the way, Makei's son resigned from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry in 2020 (!) *nods* Also, Francis's a Jesuit. You know the story about that time the Pope (I forget which one) banned the Jesuits, so they all got together to pray that God would give the Pope a message, and within the week, the Pope was dead? Now I'm an atheist, but clearly the message there is to not side against the Jesuits in a Catholic street fight.

Is Hong Kong/Taiwan actress Shu Tao (Chinese wiki, imdb) still alive? Was very frail in Summer 2012 with diabetes and complications, nothing since as far as I know. Marked living on Chinese wiki, imdb and baike baidu. Would be 99 now. (Long dead or a Zsa Zsa-like living corpse?)

Former Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces from 1989 to 2016 and later advisor to the Supreme Leader, Hassan Firouzabadi has died aged 70. Known for this weird claim he made in 2018: "Several years ago, some individuals came to Iran... In their possessions were a variety of reptile desert species like lizards, chameleons... We found out that their skin attracts atomic waves and that they were nuclear spies who wanted to find out where inside the Islamic Republic of Iran we have uranium mines and where we are engaged in atomic activities" https://www.tehrantimes.com/news/464643/Hassan-Firouzabadi-former-Iran-s-armed-forces-chief-of-staff Apparently covid.

Above is James Dean, one of the most fuckable men to have ever graced Hollywood. Below is "Danish James Dean". To me the difference is like paying £250 for a designer coat or opting for the £20 ripoff from a backstreet Chinese market, which you may have to deflea when you get home. The Danes can pipe down

The other thing I wonder is, if any of the current crop star/starlet were to die young would they be "immortalised" the way Dean was or have we moved beyond that? I am guessing it actually would, since the demises of River Phoenix and Heath Ledger has apparently added a layer of mystique to them in the eyes of their fans although that Britney Murphy girl seems to have been swiftly forgotten, not that she was so well known to begin with.

How can you remember your dreams in such detail? I barely remember any of my dreams. The ones I do remember, I can only give a basic outline. Do you sit with a note pad by the bed and write them down when you wake up?
