Take whatever time you need. And take care of yourself. That comes first.

I will try to update the list by the weekend. Apologies I have not been in the best place the last few weeks.

But in addition to Grant Shapps, Michael Green, Corinne Stockheath and Sebastian Fox were all also there.

@En Passant I entirely agree that flag waving and symbolism should not decide the election. But duty, honour and statesmanship do matter. Diplomacy matters. The President of the United States flew halfway around the world for this. The President of Ukraine left a warzone. Sunak couldn't spare a day? It's about our reputation. Our standing. He represents us. What he does matters. How he conducts himself matters. And all this just adds to the reasons the lying, graceless little shit needs booting out of office ASAFP.

You can do both. The whole purpose of history is to learn from the past and not make the same mistakes again (which we are). D-Day was arguably the most significant day of the 20th Century. It was daring and it was dangerous and it paved the way for the defeat of the most dangerous regime in the history of modern Europe (yes, up to now, even more dangerous than Putin). It is commemorated every year, but this year is a significant milestone as it is the 80th anniversary and, probably, the last significant milestone for which there will be veterans alive for (85 is a possibility, but that's not as significant, 90 is unlikely). Reaffirming the commitment to peace and remembering the sacrifice that brought it to Europe is symbolic, but also crucial to us not repeating those mistakes. Sadly some of us need to stop reading revisionist history. For your tomorrow, we gave our today. As the Prime Minister of this country, the 80th anniversary of D-Day should be a solemn occasion where he represents the nation in giving thanks to those who died and honours those who are still with us. Instead, he bailed and did a political interview as he tries to stay in office. This is exactly why Sly Ronnie said having the election around the D-Day commemoration was a bad idea. We can worry about the world today tomorrow. One day to remember is not an issue. Without them, we wouldn't have tomorrow.

Oh, I'm all for moving forward - symbolism, tokenism, whatever you want to call it. But he's the Prime Minister and there are certain duties the public have a right to expect you to perform. If he can't do one day's National Service, how can he call upon anybody in this country to do it for a whole year? There are certain people you don't metaphorically slap in the face - it's those who fought for this country and the dead who lie in the fields of France who fought for this country.

Aside from the monarchy and David Attenborough, and possibly even moreso, WWII veterans are as close as this country gets to sacred cows. It truly boggles the mind that Sunak wouldn't understand this.

Online stats about WW2 veterans appear somewhat strange. Whereas there are a few links that state that the UK has less than 100 D -Day veterans still alive, there are more than one sites that state that the US still has about 119500 (!) WW2 veterans still alive. The oldest WW2 veteran still alive is a Romanian, Ilie Ciocan who is 111. (b 28/05/1913)

Looking at the songs that qualified from the first 8 years of this decade. The only artist to get more than one through so far is David Bowie and you could argue that he has four (as two of the others are with Bowie penned songs) This round no research is needed as so many of these are on my playlist. Lucky for you it is adult me that is voting here and not 9 year old me otherwise I would probably be giving The Barron Knights and The Dooleys points

Somebody from another country posting on Twitter noted that Sunak left early "leaving Grant Shapps as the UK representative". This person apparently oblivious to the presence of the King, the Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Princess Royal - but still, it's a very bad look.

Sunak leaving the D-Day commemorations is totally indefensible. Apparently this was arranged by Sunak's team for an ITN interview - a political interview. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, its territories etc etc LEAVING when aged veterans made the trip, the King suffering from cancer made the trip...well, I'm just appalled. I'd be shouting this from the rooftops in Richmond. He should lose his seat for this. He should RESIGN for this. He should lose all the benefits of premiership for this. If Tory MPs do not come out en masse to condemn him for this, then they deserve to lose their seats also.

I'm currently updating my stats for previous games (I lost some data on a corrupted hard drive, so it's taking a bit of time), but one thing I mentioned in the last thread was that Game 1 was won by Unique Picks, Game 2 by All 5 Categories and Game 3 by Whole Category. Game 4 was won by Unique Picks, so if the pattern continued, Game 5 would be won by All 5 Categories...which it has! Whole Category should be next but that may require a massacre at the Met Gala or something. What I would say to people throwing ideas out is be careful! You may need to save some ideas for your own game! (Especially if it's a good one )

ITV news just confirmed that 23 D-Day veterans attended the event in Normandy today. The youngest was 96 and the oldest was 104. Still not seeing any reports speculating on total numbers, but by contrast the 75th anniversary in Normandy in 2019 was attended by 225 veterans.
